I think I'm clicking. You say "and using a service". So if I'm not using a service, but have preapproval, I have to wait in line? Is there now two lines? When I was there, there was only one line. I don't care if you have preapproval or not, if there is one line and you bust it, that's wrong.

Nope still not clicking........It's not "pre approval, the permits are already issued and done! As compared to absolutely nothing at all done but you having filled out your own paperwork with nothing but your word that it's correct. That is a huge difference to the service having already collected your completed permits which are FINISHED AND READY TO HAND OVER TO YOU once stamped I don't see the complexity to this concept. There is no line to collect your already finished permits. The only line in existance there is for the people who are trying to get their applications approved so a permit can be issued. I give up,........ whine all you guys want to and wait in the freakin line because your to bloody cheap to spend the hundred bucks! The 20 plus hours of travel is not long enough eh, you enjoy the travel and the airport so much that standing in that line is somehow part of your "experience" I guess!

Dang, Hack, you on the rag tonight or something? Take five and regroup. When I use the word, PREAPPROVED, I mean the permit was issued, done and complete, awaiting the stamp. Whether I do it, or a "Service" does it, it's done. Do I now wait in line with the masses, while your hunters, who are required to use a Service, go to the front of the line? That's the point. All things being equal, paperwork wise, why should they be allowed to do this?

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here. If you use an agent and choose to pay the additional fee, the agent asks for your info & paperwork including letters of motivation and invitation etc some weeks in advance, complete the application forms for you, take them to the Central Firearms Register, have the import forms processed and the import licence issued well in advance. Then they meet you as you get off the plane, take you through the assisted channel of passport control, so you don't have to stand in line. Get your firearm to the SAPS office and all that remains to be done by the SAPS is check the serial number(s) are the same as on the licence. If you choose not to use an agent and not pay the additional fee, even if you have the application form already filled out correctly, the SAPS then have to check it's filled out correctly and also check the letters of motivation etc, (many are wrong or incomplete) fill in their own ledger, write out the import licence & check the serial numbers...... this takes a lot longer. Guys, whether you like it or not, some people are so disorganised it's not true..... I've seen hunters at the SAPS office who don't have a single piece of paper detailing their hunt, let alone letters of invitation and motivation and have never heard of the "new" act that's now been in force for 18 months. People like that might take hours or more to clear the SAPS office...... why on earth should anyone who has everything done and know they'll be in and out of the SAPS office in 2 minutes expect to wait umpteen hours behind a bunch of dumb clucks that are hold everything up forever. you can in fact, have your licence pre issued yourself, - but I don't know anyone who's ever done it. You'd have to collect all the various pieces of paper, complete the applications, send them to Africa, check they got there, keep phoning to chase the application, expect the said application to be lost a couple of times and possibly replaced (by you) and then hope the SAPS get the details right and then send the import permit to the right address. Believe me, you'd have to start to process at least 6 months in advance......

Steve AKA Shakari ,, You know to get the (listen to good advice) message across to some characters it sometimes reminds me of the chap whom kept banging his head against a brick wall continually and when someone asked him why he was doing that his reply was it felt good when I stopped (-: Just pay the bribe money and get the permit done in advance Cheers Peter

I took BA to Joberg on my way to Zim. Optima met me and guided me around the maze i had to go through. The $60 was well spent just alone on going through the different areas of the airport. Not to mention Optima making sure my guns got on the same flight that i was on.

I've done both ways (on own and escorted) - at JIA and CT. The gun bit isn't too troublesome, but carrying my camera bag...Optima does this for me from door of plane, gets kit off carousel and orgainises fast track though SAPS, and then through crew channel at immigration. Alternatively I can wait and save oh...enough for a bottle of champagne to celebrate getting through? Sorry to hear about Insp.Conroy - a good man in my view. Regards rdash PS JJHack HOW the f&*%$ do I persuade MW to communicate?

Robert, he is not at the lodge consession much any more. They have moved and have no phones or Emial. He has left the whole thing to me for the most part now. Send me an EMail with your concern and I'll see what I can do. He has new interests in another part of the country. I've been left with almost 100% of the management and operations now. How can I help you? Email me. jjhack@huntingadventures.net
