Just watched this weeks Show and had seen all the "footage" prior on other shows I believe. Just new narrative with the PH. Noticed stll the overwhelming music in the background. Don't know what gives with this? Last weeks show was twice as bad with the music blaring. Music in most big and small screen productions are used to highlight and add to what's happening on screen. The music continued to blare even when the client and PH were talking, really rather rude I would say, to the point couldn't even understand what was being said.

Congrats to the hunter and PH on their hunt and the outstanding trophies that were taken. Just to bad they couldn't have been portrayed in a little better quality of the production

JMO, seems the Show now has no basic direction now that Ivan and Craig are not there keeping the narrative and cohesiveness flowing along. I guess there is only room for one "ultra ego" in the group? Oh well, I am sure they will carry on thinking they are doing what is best. Time will tell.

I have noticed the blaring music as well, and I spoke to Tim Danklef and Dave Fulson about at at SCI. They told me when they reviewed the episodes during the edit process, it was relatively soft and in the background as intended. They were surprised by how loud and distracting it was during the few episodes that have aired this season, and they said they were correcting this issue.

Other than the music being too loud, I find it to be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the greatest of respect for both Craig & Ivan, but I have not seen a drop in quality at all.
As soon as Dave gets the music situation under control there will be only one problem with the show, I'M NOT ON IT!

Guys - As you know, I too produce some tv/video stuff (well not me personally - but my producer Smiler) and its shocking, amazing and outrageously frustrating how the audio/video gremlins can change things all on their own????

Many times have we completed and then rendered a video, triple checked it for accuracy, only then to play it on youtube, etc, and the audio is blaring, the video has changed, etc. Its so frustrating, I can't even describe it. How it happens, I have NO idea - but it does, and it looks/sounds bad. One would think the producer is not doing a good job, when simply the gremlins have tampered with it - and we have to go back in and fix it. Mad

I suspect this is what happened with the recent TAA episodes mentioned above?

I like the introduction that Ivan used to do, but I never found him or CB to be the "glue" that held the show together. The glue is watching real hunters hunt.

What's the point Larry? Just reminding the forum that you don't get along with Dave? Is there some real constructive criticism to be taken here that isn't already being addressed (ie the sound issue)? We see your real motive in the final paragraph, about the "ultra ego", do we not?

Plus 1 - tu2 Some music to highlight and bring focus to a particular situation that is developing or for solitude after a hunter has been successful seems quite alright. But to have continuous, blaring music throughout the whole episode, without even cutting it for talk between characters is, well kinda irritating and rude to those watching and participating in the production.

But hey, if this is what the majority of
viewers actually want, keep it up. I can always hit the mute button or the channel changer.

Todd - I guess you missed the part where I said this weeks show was basically a repeat of footage past? Just pointing that out. So I guess that would be a point of constructive criticism?

Don't know Dave, never met Dave, probably never will, who knows. Just "pointing out" that when several egos need stroked it's most likely the one with the most power/money "ultra ego" will be the one that gets the nod. Kinda like in a Lion pride, only one gets to be #1.

Just my take on the show and situation, if others see it differently no big deal and I'll leave it at that. Have a great day.

Guys
Yes, the audio\ music overide continues to be a vexing thing. IT DOES NOT sound like that when sent to the network! Aaron's post took the words right out of my mouth. Last weeks PH Spotlight was a new kind of look into the life, profession, and personal passion of a Professional Hunter. There was indeed some footage that had previously aired we used to bring a point or two to life, such as a favorite hunt, memory, dangerous situation, and so forth. It was, however, not just re-treaded footage.
We are indeed, as are many fellow producers, working to ensure that the finished product you see on TV is the same that left the studio.
As for Ultra Ego, believe me, some of my company's biggest headaches would have never have come up if I was doing the on air hosting. If I had the ego I am accused of, it would be Dave Fulson's Tracks Across Africa. That is not the case. But...as for the glue that holds the presentation together, it is the great talent of my crew, before hosts, writing or anything else. That glue has and will continue to be in place, regardless of who delivers the message. But, if you like the messages, tips, writing style on our TV shows, and or DVD's, well, THANKS, I appreciate the compliment, as yours truly has been banging them out for our hosts to read for over ten years.( Had to stroke my ego Todd! LOL)
For those that enjoy our content and appreciate the effort involved in bringing the safari experience to life, for the entire Safari Classics Production Team I say a very sincere Thank You! We do our best.
Good Hunting

Dave,

Joyce and I enjoyed visiting with you in Vegas. We discussed bringing up the loud music issue but took a pass. Didn't want you thinking all we could do was criticize your productions.

That said, we also find the background music distracting. Just a thought, but we will be having Justin film our hunt with Buzz. First time we have ever done that.

Marty (an AR member) was kind enough to send us two of his videos. Within five minutes of the first Joyce remarked, "I want to do this". Her reason was that there was no dramatic background music except for the intro footage and very end.

During the stalks you could easily hear Buzz and Marty but more importantly you could hear the Cape Doves calling, the footfalls, the brush as they sneaked by. It felt like Africa to us since we have been there.

My humble suggestion is to maybe save your background music for the intro and exit and otherwise allow the viewer to hear the Africa we all long to return to.

Cheers
J&J

Don't mind the music so much as I am hard of hearing. Adds a nice complement to the show if done correctly. Can help create tension or exultation etc....

I have always loved the show and this one in particular as I have hunted with Richie and he is a great PH.

To be honest I didn't even notice the music. I thought the last show was great...so great in fact my 4 year old twins were jumping up and down clapping when the guy shot the hippo and croc. Pretty cool...

I am not sure if I watched the same episode.

I noted Ben's voice at the beginning echoing and sounding hollow with a very low tone. At times, the music was too loud but it wasn't that bad.

I enjoyed the show.

I think it's the best show on Africa, bar none and too bad these networks mess with things beyond producers power. Very unfortunate
That being said, keep up the good work Dave.
Say Hi to Rentz as that guy is just cool under the fire after watching his elephant encounter. In this instance, he far surpassed Ivan and everyone else. Does he have a blood pressure?

Everyone that enjoys TAA, and I'm one of them, needs to go HERE and make that feeling known. Without the positive feedback the channel will never know how you feel.

I'm sure Mark Valaro is a great PH, but a TV personality he is not. The lack of a host with enthusiasm (or at least the appearance of it) makes the show dull and uninspiring. Of course, it is a fine line between the over the top nonsense and a detached, laid back approach but to each his own!

I look froward to TAA each week. It was the show that really got me interested in hunting Africa and for that I will always be thankful. Since I have hunted with Mark on three safaris (and a forth in the planning) I consider him a friend. He takes his work very seriously, as he should, but he has a good sense of humor and enjoys a laugh as we all do. He is a good shit.

Dave and Tim - love the work and keep it up. Cheers and all the best.

I like regular PH's like Mark and others there, because they don't take the spotlight from the actual hunting scenes.
Plus not everyone is Big shot showman or Hollywood type, which can ruin show in no time.
One time I complained, when networks didn't show what particular episode was showing so my DVR kept recording and recording and recording and when I got home from the road, it was a mess.
That got fixed and got no complaining.
I'm actually happy Ivan is gone as to me, he was stealing the show away from hunting by showing off a tad too much. Nothing against Ivan, it was just time for him to leave.

I have to say I did enjoy Boddington the most based on his TV persona. One of the things I liked the most about that era was that he was often hunting with Joe Schmoe hunter. Some of these newer shows are doing that as well, focusing on hunters that are not a "name", host, or sponsor, which I prefer. Having the PH, or your lead guy there, who hosted one recently, as the host is good TV as far as I'm concerned.

Since Boddington, who is a professional sporting actor and it shows, I am not enamored with the host as hunter or the sponsor or sponsor's employees as hunters. I just don't enjoy those shows as much.

Having any old visiting hunter and his PH is good, enjoyable TV to me.

I've watched it since the show started
