I am going to Burkina FAso this spring for lion, buff, roan etc.
I usually have my african work done by Lifeform, but it doesnt seem very practical to ship trophies to SA and from W africa, and then have them shipped back to US. Any suggestions? I live in Wisconsin. I want someone with experience in mounting roan, buff etc. thanks

When big game animals die I firmly believe their dying wish is that they might be mounted by Jerry Huffaker and thus achieve immortality.

What a coincidence, Jerry also thinks that anything I shoot needs to achieve immortality at his hands ... Smiler

I can vouch for Anthony. He has hunted here on numerous occasions and really knows what he does.

Best African work I've seen was done by Legends Taxidermy in Scottville Michigan. I believe on of the Cabelas uses the for personal taxidermy.

He's merely trying to carry out their dying wishes Wink

Seriously, if I had a RW #1 albino Kudu with 100 pound tusks, 4 full curls and a nose horn, I would get it to Jerry, and a look at these two pages will illustrate why...

Jerry has a nice website. He does a great job photographing his mounts, anyone who has tried to take a picture of a mount knows, it isn't easy.

Here is another vote for Legends Taxidermy in Scottville, Michigan. The last time that I was in their shop they had a Buff, a couple of Lions and a Giraffe on display. Several plains game also.

emron,

I've used only two taxidermists over the last twenty plus years with perfect satisfaction and they are Atcheson Taxidermy who I'm kind of in business with and Jerry Huffaker. Either one will provide you not only with good taxidermy work but great customer service.

Thanks for pointing that out. Transparency is a wonderful thing, to say nothing of a legal requirement if you are going to endorse a product or service.

I enjoyed the company of Jerry and his lovely wife a couple of weeks ago when he delivered our leopard. I say "ours" because my meager contribution (shooting it and paying for it) pales in comparison to Jerry's significant investment of time and artistic talent.

I love my infrequent visits to his shop - it affords me the opportunity to witness the wealth and variety of hunter memories that he re-animates. Take a minute to check out the pictures of his work in the Taxidermy forum here on AR as there are many examples there that aren't included on his web site.

Jerry does work for folks from Florida to Alaska - so Wisconsin shouldn't be any stretch.

Another recommendation for Jerry Huffaker. When I got my 1st buffalo & several other animals in 2010, I found from AR that Jerry's work was highly regarded from clients & peers nationally. His postings on the taxidermy forum here and on his website exemplify his unique talents. He's done great work for me, and can't wait to see my leopard that he's working on.

Marcus Zimmerman in Martinsburg, Pa. Hands down the best and turns quickly. I was in his shop last Friday. In process was a beatiful Sable (full body), a triple Chammmy (one full body and two shoulders all on a nice rock haibtat), double Thar (one full body and a shoulder on a rock habitat), a few Impala and a nice Elephant shoulder mt. it is Marcus his son and brother Kenny. I took him my Royal and Maxwell on Aug 18th back the day before Thanksgiving.

I have it on good authority that Jerry wears his boots on the wrong feet and won't climb a mountain to look around to tell you if there are Caribou around.

Other than that, I guess he's alright.

In addition to happy clients, taxidermy judges think highly of him as well.

Jerry Huffaker might be hard to beat. If you want someone a little closer to home you might want to consider Natures Way Taxidermy, out of Green Bay.

I have to agree. This morning I was sitting through an infuriating presentation on the new health care regulations when Jerry texted me some pictures of the mounts he just finished for me; suddenly I was back in Africa and all was right with the world!

I have to throw in a recommendation for my buddy Rocky Cooper at Brush Country Studios. I use him exclusively for my taxidermy work. He does a TON of African game, and I would venture to guess that he mounts 50-100 Buffalo every year. He is also known as the "Cat Man" because of his outstanding work with Lion and Leopard.

Here is his website: http://www.brushcountrystudios.com/
