Lion Charge - Zimbabwe!

When lion hunting goes wrong, you want my buddy Cliff Walker (green shirt) in front of you with his .577NE double. He's tough as nails, and extremely experienced! I've been in Alaska for 3 weeks, and he sent this to me while I was gone - telling me I can share it if I so choose. Thought you all might like to see it.

Note Cliff's first motion is to drop to a knee!!! That shows you his knowledge/experience with charging lions. Always drop down to get on the same level, as when a lion charges he comes low - getting eye level makes it easier to place an accurate / stopping shot.

The "appie" hung right in there too, and the cameraman also did a fine job.

Like any good "King", although he's coming to kill you - the lion is always a "gentleman" about it. He'll growl/roar letting you know he's on the way.

This was two weeks ago in his Rifa Safari Area in Zimbabwe. I love lion hunting, but this part I can do without!

Click on video to watch!

The jesse in RIFA is not the kind of place a PH or client want to be following a wounded cat especially early season. This is a classic example of temperament and class under extreme pressure.Well done Cliff and your team."Very Professional."

I just get a screen that says "we're sorry, this video has been deleted by its owner".

Hopefully that's not Photobucket censoring these things.

Are you kidding me ????

MY little Siamese cat attacks me like that like me all the time.

I just pet her and all is OK.

My advice to you is to get to know your lions. Spend some dwell time cultivating, feeding, petting them and next time they attack just hold up your hand and yell - STOP. Then give a belly rub, a chin scratch and a back pet.

At your option you can have your next of kin contact us.

Really amazing. In a situation like that and more than one gun it is easy to see how an accident can happen.
I'm curious if a PH would rather face a charge from a lion or a leopard. Obviously the answer is neither but I wondered if there is one considered less hazardous than the other.

The "appie" did a great job as well! Someone once referred to the lion as the most adequate killing machine you'll ever face. Hard to argue with that ....

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always

On your knee level w/ the Lion don't need to lead, straight on shot. Guy has steel running thru his veins, 'appie' does too.

Logically, running does no good in virtually any charge situation. Might as well shoot it out, kneeling if that's appropriate. Doing it when the time comes, takes some balls. Well done all around.

To tell the truth a scoped rifle in that tight might be a death sentence. But the double rifle gives quick shots with crushing results.
