I watched Jim Shockey on TV this weekend hunting in Tanzania. He was a bit apprehensive at times and seemed to marvel at all he saw.. Overall, what is your opinion of Jim Shockey and his hunting show? Positive, negative, what do you think? Please, no mud slinging - just good old opinions based on observation.

I find his show to be very entertaining. Esp enjoy his father, quite a character. But I do think he vastly overdoes the Thompson Center bull. 465H&H

He seems like a genuinely nice guy who is having the time of his life hunting all over the world. His choice of firearm does demonstrate questionable taste and judgment, however! Just kidding. I realize that TC is his sponsor. Somebody has to pay the bills, right? But I believe that I would pay my own way before I'd use one of those TC smokepoles! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Nothing against Shockey because everyone has to have a sponsor, but I'm amazed that TC has bought practically ALL of the TV hunts. I don't know anyone who would hunt with one of those barndoor hinge-rifles made out of a pistol, which itself was made out of a shotgun (much less one with a big garish red billboard of an ad plastered on the stock). I can't believe that TV sponsorhips are selling enough of those woesome contraptions to justify still making them.

I like Shockey's show better than most. I also like Thompson center products especially the old style Contenders, and I don't have any idea who makes better "production" black powder rifles. I do wish they would back off on the sponsorships, maybe their prices would come down. And I hate it that they sold to Smith&Wesson.

His hunting shows seem as good or better han the others offered. I have enjoyed watching his dvd's of black bear hunting also. I'n not however a fan of the TC Encore and feel he overdoes the advertising and praise of the gun.

i really enjoy only about 2 or 3 of the shows, & shockey is one, bottington is another, but then again there is the show after boddingtons where the dufus slings arrows out of taj ma blind at impala watering at the waterhole and then calls it hunting

Shockey's is probably my favorite hunting show just because it always seems like he's doing something that interests me. The episodes where his dad is along are some of the best TV has to offer.

I really like his show, its one of the few I'll watch. There is no question that he loves what he does and is passionate about the sport and where its heading. That being said, I was not impressed at all when I met him in person. I will trust Aaron Nielsons assesment of Jim as I have talked quite a bit with Aaron and we have a number of mutual friends within the industry. I have edited this post and will give Jim Shockey the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to a bad day That being said, the guy does do a great job on his show Drummond

I like his hunting shows, Hunting wild unfenced areas, close up shots and family. I talked to Jim for 6 hours in the airport in France a few years ago, I got to say Jim was amazingly open about his life, the good and bad. In these days of hype and bull, It's nice to see some one like Jim make a good living doing what he loves! Jim has several booked several hunts with a outfitters and friends of mine. (Paid full price) On one of the hunts he did not kill the animal he was after. Jim never complained once, In fact he re booked a hunt for the next year! Jim is a true hunter, I wish more TV shows were like his ! Robert Johnson

This is what I expected when I introduced myself to him. I am completely willing to chalk it up to him having a bad day. We all have them and he was at a hunting show. Maybe he had a lot on his plate. I'll leave my original post up to see if anybody else has a similar experiance. I hope it was an isolated incedent. I will say that when you watch his show you get the feeling that he really does it the right way, he hunts hard and he is very passionate about the sport. He seems genuine on the tube. Drummond

I thought his hunting show for Duiker in Cameroon was one of the best hunting half hours I have seen in quite sometime. The misses, the terrain, the climate all made for much more then the hunt. I also like the fact that many of his episodes show more then just the hunting concession and show towns, villages, and the local way of life. The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense

I've met Jim along with his lovely wife and found them both to be delightful. He had recently returned from his Cameroon self-guided safari and was completely pumped up about it. He was not feeling well but still was polite and friendly and paused to await the arrival of my nephew who wanted to ask his advice on a BP question. He couldn't have been more accommodating. Some of you may know already, but Jim has been a friend of mine for about 10 years! We booked him on his VERY first African safari to Namibia, and booked him on 3 safaris just last year! I've spent lots of time on the phone with Jim about hunting, and a couple of business opportunities we tried to put TOGETHER too, but things just never quite worked out! We've spent time in camp together, and in the field as well!! One thing is for sure, Jim knows what he wants, and he will make no bones about it!! He may not always tell you what you want to hear, but he always tell you the truth!! He is a very SMART business man, but plays the "gold ole boy" role quite well!! His experience as a hunter has few rivals, and he's a fantastic shot with that smoke pole! Trust me, I've seen it with my own two eyes! His show is one of the best in my opinion. Mainly because if I see one more clown shooting a 110" whitetail from a treestand or a box, I just might go POSTAL!! Yes, his ego is as big as a house, but if he knows you well enough, he'll tell you that too!!! Overall he's a pretty good guy, and has been a good friend to me over the past 10 years, so I can't complain too much!! Aaron Neilson

I enjoy Jim's show because he travels around a lot and doens't center on Whitetails. I love hunting Deer, all of them but damn, I wanna see what I've never seen. I'm with Aaron on "one more 110 Whitetail." JS's show as mentioned covers a lot of ground, even the misses and unsuccessful hunts. He once panned his trophies. All skull mounts. I didn't see a single mounted head. I knew then he must be saving his money for more hunts Cheers, David Gray Ghost Hunting Safaris http://grayghostsafaris.com Phone: 615-860-4333 Email: hunts@grayghostsafaris.com NRA Benefactor DSC Professional Member SCI Member RMEF Life Member NWTF Guardian Life Sponsor NAHC Life Member Rowland Ward - SCI Scorer Took the wife the Eastern Cape for her first hunt: http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6881000262 Hunting in the Stormberg, Winterberg and Hankey Mountains of the Eastern Cape 2018 http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4801073142 Hunting the Eastern Cape, RSA May 22nd - June 15th 2007 http://forums.accuratereloadin...=810104007#810104007 16 Days in Zimbabwe: Leopard, plains game, fowl and more: http://forums.accuratereloadin...=212108409#212108409 Natal: Rhino, Croc, Nyala, Bushbuck and more http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6341092311 Recent hunt in the Eastern Cape, August 2010: Pics added http://forums.accuratereloadin...261039941#9261039941 10 days in the Stormberg Mountains http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7781081322 Back in the Stormberg Mountains with friends: May-June 2017 http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6001078232 "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. The only thing worst than the enumerable whitetail hunts are the repetitive turkey hunts. If you have seen one turkey calling hunt you have seen them all. 465H&H

The comments here have made me glad I decided years ago not to subscribe to the outdoor channels. I have watched only a few such shows in hotels and at the homes of friends, and they were absolute turnoffs for me. Someone shoots something, then high-fives everyone in sight and then the entire crew giggles and rehashes the stalk and the shot. The only show I could stand to watch more than once was SCI's, but that's because host Mike Rogers is a professional videomaker and isn't on an ego trip. The production quality of the other hunting and fishing shows I've seen was not much better than an amateur's vacation videos. Haven't seen Shockey's or Boddington's shows yet so I can't comment on them. Bill Quimby

Bill, Boddington and Shockey are a cut above the "hook and bullet" yahoos that high five each other or have their enhanced wives on the show as well. I get extremely sick and tired of seeing the "Southern" good ol boys at work on whitetails and in front of a camera. If they had 5 neurons and pulse, they would not be doing this. Shockey and CB do a great job of not over glamourizing things and are serious about what they do. The rest are a bunch of neaderthals without an 8th grade education.

Shockey obviously likes his job - and who wouldn't? He goes on some tremendous hunts and films in "fair chase" fashion, rather than sitting in a blind at a desert waterhole. "No game is dangerous unless a man is close up" Teddy Roosevelt 1885.

Didn't Shockey used to hunt with a Knight smokepole. Does any one remember or am I just dreaming this? If he did when did he switch and why? Is it just the money or did he really like the TC better. Just curious.

Yes, Shockey used to hunt with a Knight. I think it was about the time Tony Knight sold the company that he switched. Don't know if that's why he switched or not. Brett I agree. That song is the worst of them all.
