I read that Ryan Zinke of MT had been tapped to head the Department of the Interior. He is a life long hunter and fisherman.

I have met Mr. Zinke and was most impressed with a speech I heard him give in CA. Perhaps best of all, I can get to him I think. His uncle Dave is on the board of one of my clients. I also know one of his friends.

The future may be looking better.

Sounds good, I was half hoping Donald Jr. would be put on there. Guess they can't do that with the laws these days.

Go for it Larry.

I like the fact that he is on record for opposing turning over federal lands to western states. The last thing we need hunters is being denied access vast tracks of land being turned over to greedy local and state players.

Larry, thanks for the breaking news.

Maybe Zinke can roll back some of the crazy Obama/ USFW
laws concerning Africa game and US Customs.

I admit I had no knowledge of the man before the nomination, but I am encouraged by his past statements of support for retaining federal lands, for hunting and fishing on federal lands, and for support for Land and Water Conservation Fund - but most of all from a quote I found from an interview:

When you were campaigning, you once called Hillary Rodham Clinton “the real enemy.”

That’s not really true. I was at a small fund-raiser in Bigfork, Mont. You give your little speech, and at the end of it they said, “What are the candidates that you think are going to be on the Republican side?” And they said, “What about Hillary?” I said, “You mean the Antichrist?”

I was speaking at an industry comferenc in San Diego. One of my clients organized the conference. A board member who is Ryan's uncle arranged for Ryan to speak to the group. In my opinion virtually every single person in the room would have voted for him to be president after hearing his talk. He was good, real good.

With the Trump win, things are looking very good for us.

But, we must continue to aggressively support and defend Trump, because the brain-dead, bubble-head "liberals" will continue to go after him like no President before.

The collective sigh from most everyone in the African hunting industry was deafening. There was a flood of e-mails from every corner offering congratulations to the US for a Trump win. The alternative would have spelled the end for many of them.

Sounds like we have an ally and benefactor in Zinke.

We are sitting good with the Zinke nomination! I originally met Ryan when we were both invited to appear at political campaign events a few years ago. We have since exchanged personal numbers and worked together on a serious issue. I am VERY confident that things will change for the better. Now we just have to get a good replacement for his congressional seat here in MT.

(I wonder if he needs a good deputy? Roll Eyes)

I've been impressed with most of Trump's picks so far. He appears to be doing the same thing required to be successful in the business world - surround yourself with proven leaders and talent. Many proven military leaders and very successful business leaders (Tillerson).

I had not heard of Zinke before this, but I'm pretty sure he's not the type to be intimidated by much ....

A little back story to Zinke's selection. His rival for the job was Representative Raul Labrador from Idaho. Raul isn't one of Idaho's shinning lights. He was elected in the Tea Party surge a few years ago. He has also been a very strong proponent of States taking over the USFS and BLM lands in the west. I suspect Trump's sons being hunters had some influence in the selection. Good move on the Don's part!

This is one of many reasons I wanted five minutes alone with Ted Cruz. It is an issue here in the East as well. Kentucky has a lot of federal public land. That too many are willing to sell.

I am very pleased with Trump's choice for Interior and am optimistic for a clean-up at USF&W, but the real benefit to all of us will be his appointment(s) to the Supreme Court. It is those appointments that will preserve our 2nd Amendment rights, without which we would not be able to hunt. His court appointment(s) will have lasting effects on the USA for the next 50 years.

I can't even begin to say how refreshing it is to hear this from fellow AR members. Losing our public lands would be a permanent hit to our way of life that we could never recover from. Affordable access to hunting is one of the biggest problems for young hunters.

I'd like to point out that SCI's team was meeting with the Trump transition team before the announcement was made on a number of issues including the DOI Secretary appointment. When people ask why you support SCI or why they should support SCI or what SCI really does.....this is it.
