If I may ask please. How does that work when a giant is encountered. Are there special licenses needed prior or is it a matter of trophy fees only? And what would a giant like that cost? Frank

Yes, Mario your info is correct! The elephant was shot three days before I got to Kilwa camp with my Spanish clients (Another good bull was also shot that week...but not as big) I met Rafael, a nice old gentleman! Orlando stayed on safari with new clients, so we shared camp. He told me the story of the hunt. He asked me what I thought of the tusks? I congratulated, and said will go 75# for sure and well matched. You probably have the photo of Orlando standing with the pulled Ivory? I have also the same photo (if you can't post, I can put it on). They pulled them out on my last day, I lifted up these tusks, and was going to get a photo holding them, but our charter came in early....so no time. But's its beautifully matched, and quite thick ivory. Orlando is a wonderful guy, and I was very happy for him to produce such a great elephant for his client!! BTW: You have no doubt seen photo of 100+ pounder that was shot by game scouts in Federico's other block called Liparamba??

Yes PH, the photo was sent me from Federico and I wrote an article in our big game italian magazine "CACCIARE A PALLA". The post is yours so I prefer the photo is posted from you. It's interesting to know that Federico said that ther'are still two big tuskers aroud in the concession and I hope some hunter will be licky to kill at least one. Jerome latrive sent me a picture of one of this big bulls estimated 70 pounds mario

I get the impression these days that so many folks think all the big elephants are gone..Its not the case at all..A number of 75 to 90 pounders are shot each year, the number depends on a lot of things, but the big boys are always there and always will be...Johan Calitz shoots about as many big elephants as anyone I know and Botswana is probably the best place, but not necessairly, to shoot a 100 pound bull IMO. At least that is where I would go for a 100 pounder and yes I would want the full 30 days and 90 would be better. The 100 pounders keep showing up in places where noone has seen them before..This is caused by a breed charteristic..In the last year or two of an elephant bull his body decimates as all his vitamins, minerals, etc. go into his tusks and cause a growth spurt, and your 75 pounder suddenly becomes a 100 pounder, give or take, thus they pop up from time to time.
