I think that the City of Dallas dropped the ball in letting customers (DSC) know that they were looking at closing the convention center and rebuilding it. The city of Dallas should have provided different options to DSC to be considered in the greater Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The loss of the conventions is somewhat of a financial loss to the area.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of news articles about a proposed and then an approved new convention center going back at least 5 years. There was even a well publicized election where residents approved the project. I was present in meetings with the City where this eventuality (and it was an eventuality) was discussed.
No doubt some of the businesses in the area will take somewhat of a hit due to fewer people visiting and traffic will likely be terrible during demo and construction.
Can’t blame the City for not giving sufficient notice of intent.
It is hard for me to imagine the City proposing a venue option for any convention, in todays litigious world that would seem to be a sure way to get sued if some convention didn’t do as well as hoped.

I have talked to several exhibitors. Not a single one likes the move .

Time will tell how this works out.

Karl is correct. This was not a surprise about the rebuild. Parts of the KBHCC date back to the 1950s. Many of you may recall the flooding of the place maybe 7 years ago. The year escapes me, but crisis was averted.

However, I assumed the project would be done in phases. It still might be, but it would still interfere with the larger conventions like DSC.

Exhibitors have bitched for years about the SCI system of forced donations. The outfitters and visitors still go. People will bitch about the change of venue. Ultimately they will still go………

I just read about the Mary Kay convention, which is in town now at KBH CC. It was estimated to bring $34.1M to the local economy and 20,000 consultants (MK saleswomen). It failed to mention what the future holds. Mary Kay Ash and her company, like Dallas Safari Club, we born here.

I recall seeing somewhere that the Mary Kay meeting was moving to Atlantic City,

Two hours away for me in Upstate SC. I’ll be there.

DSC is a hunting/conservation organization. If you refuse to support it because they temporarily left your backyard through no fault of their own, perhaps you should re-examine your commitment to those goals. Just saying…..
