I am willing to check it out and report back, but it sounds like a good "go together" to me.

I guess if I wanted to use a scope sighted double i wouldn't care who thought it seemed odd. I've gotten some funny looks from people about some of my oddball firearms already anyway. If somebody wants to pay for my safari I'll use whatever they want.

Overrated H&H? Nothing against Butch, his guns are great for the price...Kinda like a Corvette versus a Mercedes McLaren...Both have tires, go fast, drive great, BUT...A Vette ain't no McLaren!!!!

H&H is pure class and excellent function - totally worth the money if you should decide to buy one!

So is a Searcy.

I think the H&H is where all of us would like to be fitted for a couple DRs when we win the lottery.

Until then, a Searcy is my idea of a small shop where I can get the same hand-fitted DR made just for me. Besides, my Searcy .470 NE doesn't smell like Chanel No 5.

ISS, I may have missed it, but did you shoot (or shoot at) anything with your Searcy .470 on your recent trip to RSA? Or did you do all of your hunting with your 9.3?

Nganga,

Perhaps we should start a new competitive shooting event: Double Rifle Benchrest.
Holland doesn't build a more accurate DR than Butch, as far as any advertising claims I have seen. They may build a much "prettier" one, but I haven't heard any accuracy discussions. August 7th I expect to be at the H&H Shoot in NW Washington State. Maybe you can bring your H&H and we'll have a benchrest match...?

regards,

Rich

Rich,
Jag's ? Audi's ? why not "just" a chevrolet. Or is that vehicle elitism that doesn't crossover to FINE double rifles? I just like a damn nice piece of wood and some nice metalwork, they all shoot better than I can anyway.

I will be in the Selous August 7th not on the shooting range

it's not "vehicle elitism", it's a convertible big enough to carry my 6'2" 225lb frame comfortably. That and a history of really fast cars from the time I was in HS to right now.
57 Fairlane 500 with the 312 HP McCulloch Supercharger, to a 446-pak Roadrunner, Charger 500 (the NASCAR Special), to a very nice '67 XKE, to a Ford Cobra, etc.
I like fast cars, period. A Mustang is too small, and the new Camaro and Challenger weren't out when I bought the Jaguar.

Guns, on the other hand; are tools for killing things. Other than SAA's I don't get into spending a lot of $$$ for ornamentation. H&H (or anybody else) has NEVER built a Double Rifle that will do a better job of killing dangerous game than my Searcy .470 NE does. I like to think the $150,000 price difference as three big time Tusked Elephant and Buffalo hunts, a Brown Bear hunt, and three Plains Game hunts.
If you're buying, I'll take a new Ferrari 458 GTO, thanks.

regards,

Rich

PS: does it bother you that I drive a Jaguar convertible?

Alcohol
Women
Guns

Very dangerous cocktail indeed.

Not a joke, I had been alcohol tested in Hungary because an Italian ( not an hunter ) wanting to have a new experience going hunting, went out drunken after a hot night with an very easy girl. He killed a hungarian beater instead kill a hare.

Once that I knew the facts I made the test without discussions.

I can see not scoping a vintage double rifle because of the loss of collector value!

Having said that there is nothing wrong with a quality QD scope for double rifles if you need them to be able to hit what you aim at.

IMO, all hunting rifles that are not collector items should, IOM, be fitted with quality, well regulated iron sights, and a scope in quality QD rings and bases. The only difference between the bolt rifle and a double rifle is another barrel on the double rifle. The double is most often carried with the irons sights only, with the scope in your day pact to be attached for special purposes, while the bolt rifle uses the scope as primary, and the irons for back-up.

Both types are designed for hunting, and neither is completely workable without sights, both need back-up sights for different applications.
All the double rifle makers have offered QD scope attacthments since the scopes have been readily available! The scoped Holland& Holland rifle in the link offered above by Jeff Wemmer, is proof that H&H doesn't think scopes are a no-no!
I would ask anyone who thinks scopes don't belong on a double rifle, if they baught thier double rifle to look at or or to hunt with?
