Morning, folks! Smiler

My lady asked me what I would like for my birthday tomorrow and after pondering a bit, I thought that a cartridge belt to use with my Sako 416 Remington would be great.

And except for physical appearance I would then look just like Stewart Granger in his prime.

They might be 'culling belts' ?? I am not really sure.

I might not have pulled off that look on my first safari back in 1977 .. but no one is watching now, anyways .. Smiler

Who sells such an item?

Thanks and Happy 4th of July to your Americans.. all the best !!

If you are talking a full-sized belt, then you would be walking around with a lot of weight when all the loops are filled, and several hundred dollars worth of ammunition. LOL.

Good luck and Happy Birthday!

I would look at Trader Keith. He has both canvas and leather culling belts. I prefer canvas.

Heym USA also sells leather culling belts made of buffalo and hippo hide. Very nice.

There is a fella in western Kansas who produces belts and slides to your order. Damn, I can't recall his website but he has been on AR and many endorse his products. I bought one and was so impressed I ordered loops in all of my double rifle calibers from .350 no2 up to 4-bore.

Help me out, fellas. Can you find the thread or his contacts?
Cal

I have one of these (with the elephant hide loops) and it is going to Zim with me next year.

I load two, skip one. Makes for easy snatching of a reload for the double.

I love doing four-round rapid fire practice with this belt.

For the budget and utility minded big bore shooter, this slide costs less than $20 and works for all straight walled cartridges from 40 to 50 caliber.
I have personally used one for my .405 WCF, 45-70, and 45-90 . I always remove the cartridges after a hunt to avoid the Green stuff leather and brass create and to allow the leather loops to shrink back to "new" size.

Mark Sullivan wears a similar slide at his midriff and it looked and sounded practical in his book "Fear no Death", so I bought one that worked with my big bore ammo. So far, so good.

Guys is anyone worried about trying to bring back an elephant hide culling belt given the elephant import issue? On its face it should have no effect, but this year an airline refused to transport a legal hide (not elephant obviously)in carrying on from Canada.

On the other hand unless you just stupidly announce it’s elephant would anyone know to give you a bad day?

A "hide" constitutes a semi-finished product while an item crafted from a processed hide can (and is) termed as leather and could be legally argued along those lines.

Courtney boots are stitched from the hides of a number of wild animals, Elephant and Buffalo being their classics and sold on the International market without too much fuss and bother - except maybe for the good old USA with its narrow-minded USF&W officials and as LHeym500 correctly stated, if one stupidly announces the product as being derived from an Elephant, would open a can of worms.

I use a Boyt 15-round belt for my 458 Lott or 375 H&H cartridges.

It's canvas/leather mix is comfortable and durable. I really like it.

Google "Boyt Culling Belt" and you will find it.

simple and very good for multi sizes.

Have your local leather shop, or shoe/boot maker/repair shop sew one up.
Using the wide elastic strap used to make the "pull up loops" used on western boots.

Basically it's inch wide, for long shells as you guys use, just have a double strap sewn on.

You can specify spacing too.
Provide both the largest and smallest cases you use.
Half dozen of each is enough brass for their work.

I had it done on both front for rifle,
and back for pistol shell loops on my gun/hunting belt.
Holding up great after 15 years hard use.

I have a leather one from Holland Sport and and a synthetic from Texas Hunt Co. Unfortunately, I believe both entities are no longer in existence.

Dick Murray makes good leather products. I only have a leather buttstock shell holder for my .300 H&H single shot. It’s cool though.

I use two Murray holders on my belt with " holster" for Gibbs 505 and I had two .577 culling belts, one from African creation the other from Steve Colett but the later was confiscated in customs during return search of my baggage. Beautifully made. Consider keeping them in hand luggage.

Believe it or not, he had designed it for Galco in the beginning of the 1990tys, as no one more knows that this is.

He had use old originals and some of his ideas (that the loops are open at the bottom side, so that you can push the amo a lttle bit out with your fingertipps....)

Naki, my recommendation is to get Les to do one with 8 rounds and stitch between each loop or when you remove one they will loosen up and fall out.
That is what I use with good results
