I started a new thread here because I hoped it would get the appropriate reading and not get muddled in all the other stuff happening in the original Stu thread. if you want to bash me or whatever, please do it there and keep this one clean.

We have had a lot of problems with getting donations to Stu. Doing banking and getting the money safely to him in Zim has been a real mess. The latest I have heard is that Paypal may actually be refunding past donations. This has been a further nightmare.

Stu’s insurance is denying coverage and basically trying to get out of paying all they can. Two policies have said they will not pay as he was out of his home country of Zim, so the need is huge. He has already had 4 surgeries, and it is very likely he may need at least 4 more.

We hope the below is the final answer to the donation problem. Thanks so much to John Jackson and Conservation Force.

You can donate as a tax deduction to Stu Taylor on Conservation Force's web site at STU/CONS Force Link or by postal mailing to Conservation Force, 3240 S. I-10 Service Rd. W., Suite 200, Metairie, LA 70001. You need to designate the purpose STUART TAYLOR and Conservation Force will mail you an acknowledgement for income tax deduction purposes. It is as simple as that.

Each and every donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated. Please band together and let’s unite as hunters to support one of our own who is very much in need at this time.

Good Hunting,

Tim Herald

Done!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Just to be fair and balanced, and this won't make any points with some. I just got a PM from another forum member saying that bringing this to the top won't be well received by some on this site because Tim gets to go on hunts that most of us(like me for example) have to save for to go on. I'm a pretty big old boy and people in trouble need help. I'm pretty sure that the PH that was injured doesn't have the kind of money that he needs to pay the med bills that he has accrued and Seeing the giving nature of SOME of the folks here, I thought it deserved to be brought back up. If I am wrong, please feel free to let me know. I will even provide my cell phone # if you are interested. I have met Tim. He doesn't seem like a bad guy. Would I like to have his job? HELL YES! Jealous I am. But MOST of us are better than that. This site is supposed to be for informatin and experience, I don't get into politics on ANY subject.
Sincerely,
Rick Taylor

My PM said he might not be getting much interest because many folks see Tim still going on hunts while they have to save a long time for theirs. As Rick himself pointed out to me , this fund has much less interest than others. Why is that?

I have stated publicly before the whole idea of a relief fund to pay for these accidents is not a viable solution.

OBVIOUSLY, I have violated a trust. To the other forum member, I humbly apologize. Please accept my apology. Sincerely. I have just been raised to say what is on my mind. And I did. I'm sorry sir. Not being there, I cannot and do not understand the circumstances of the accident. I have been involved in a buffalo charge at less than 20 yards and, thankfully for me and the PH, I did not trip and have an Accidental discharge. I was not it Tim's shoes, nor was anybody else.. So please accept my humble apology.

Everybody can decide for themselves whether they wish to contribute to this cause. The amount I gave is chump change compared to the amount of the bills. Doesn't matter. My money to give and I gave a piece.

Now as far as your quote above I want to tell a quick (or long because I can't do much short) story.

When we used to live in Dillingham Joyce and I took a trip to Round Island to view Walrus when they haul out. Great experience and it’s a very limited (10 people at a time back then) access.

We met a professional photographer from Mississippi. He had spent three weeks in Denali Park and now his last week on Round Island. He was down to Ramen Noodles for food. We approached his campsite with cheese and crackers and you would have thought we saved his life.

I was a very avid photographer back then (days of real film and not digital). We talked about photography and I made the mistake of telling him how much I wish I had his job sitting on this strange place in the middle of nowhere and getting paid to do it. He looked at me like I was purple.

“My kids have lived on peanut butter. We have had our electric turned off multiple times for lack of payment. I’ll trade you jobs right now”.

Be careful what you wish for.

When Joyce and I spent a little time over dinner with Tim a couple weeks ago all he could look forward to was being back home with his wife and going hunting locally with his sons for Whitetail.

These TV hunters spend a huge amount of time from home. It’s not hunting like you and I enjoy. They pass up shots based on lighting.

Not for me!! I like watching a handful of hunting shows but I have no drive to be a participant.

Tim at least is trying to get something done.

Distracting from this fact is not going to achieve anything.

If you don't like what he is doing, and have no wish to participate, there is no one forcing you to.

This whole idea of jealousy because one can do something while others cannot is very silly.

That is spot on.

Personally I have no use for the majority of TV hunting shows as I have been around for the filming of quite a few. I have become jaded to the whole idea.

However, my personal view of that industry should have nothing to do with this. A reputable PH has suffered a severe injury in the field. Tim's involvement and his chosen profession have nothing to do with and should not have anything to do with whether you decide to contribute to the fund for the injured party.

Petty is the word that springs to mind over some of the comments.

How about more reports on Stu's progress and what is Tim planning on doing or has done other than trying to get other people to contribute . If the public can see the whole picture in a true sense I am certain humanity will kick in.

Ditto.

Why someone feels the need to be critical of another's efforts to help someone else, regardless of the circumstances, is beyond me and actually makes me feel a bit sad in terms of what kind of world this has become.

I am going to make a donation because I met Stu in Atl. and I hate this for him personally.
This may piss some people off but if I had accidently shot someone I personally would feel responsible for not only his medical bills but his lost income. I don't know Tim but he seems like a stand up guy, don't know his finances either. Its a good thing to set this fund up but what outside this fund is being done for Stu? It does not apear this will come close to making him whole.
It one thing to say your sorry it's a great deal more to write some big checks. I am very glad I am not in Tim's shoes...
Best to Stu and I will be sending a check.

And that was the thrust of my note to Pagoswingnut: many folks are going to be reluctant to give absent some "sacrifice" from Tim. I meant this to be a private note to him, especially since Tim wanted this thread to be about the relief fund.

I made an observation, not a judgment, to Pagoswingnut in private. And after he posted it, many here decide to place judgment on me. Ironically, it caused several very regular members, who I assume had seen this thread before, to come out and contribute.

I have said many times this could have happened to any of us.

As for jealousy, Saeed, I do all the hunting I care to do. But if I did shoot Stu, I would write the check to pay for those bills today. I am certainly not jealous of someone who can't write that check and even less so of someone who can but won't.

I believe most people are exactly where they want to be in life, including me. I don't wish to make hunting a job anymore than I care to be a porn star.

Hey, guys - give to the cause or not, but if not, don't be so offensive - and defensive - about it at the same time.

Tim specifically noted that if anyone wants to slam him, they're welcome to do so, but he also specifically requested that this thread be kept clean of that, and devoted to fund raising for Stuart. Little good that did.

Stuart is in a very bad situation, because he does what many of us do from time to time.

But for him it's all the time and his living, and for him things went south in a critical and life-changing way.

And so Stuart desperately needs help.

And I find that I can help, albeit in a small way, given Stuart's desperate needs.

So, I helped.

And I did it publicly, rather than anonymously, in an effort to build some momentum here - for what I consider to be a worthy cause.

That, to me, is all there is to it.

As an appie in this profession it pains me to see the criticism and uglyness coming through on this thread. It was an unfortunate accident with severe results for both the client and Stu. To all who have donated i say thank you. It has been a very bad year for the Hunting Fraternity in Zim. To see people supporting Stu, even though they've never met him, shows how we have a common bond through the pursuit of Hunting.

Thanks to all.

Don't know Tim, haven't met him, probably would really like him. But my donation is for Stu and has nothing to do with how I might feel about Tim.

I've known some PHs that got scraped up a bit, and it's always very, very difficult for them financially. That one would choose this life just tells me they are a special breed.

My check goes out in the morning.

My guess is that many of the folks that have found ways to nitpick Tim's efforts are the same folks that are always able to find a good excuse not to give to charities, e.g., "I don't give to the [United Way][American Red Cross][Other] because . . ." Rather than just face up to the fact that they are too cheap or socially repressed to be charitable, they simply rationalize away their decision not to contribute. Usually once you debunk their initial excuse for not contributing they have another excuse waiting in the wings ready to be deployed.

How do we know what Tim has done for Stu?
How do we know what others have done for Stu?

Many people like to help, without making a song and dance about it.

Helping someone is an individual private matter, and one else's.

Donate if you choose but don't be troll and tell others that they should or should not based on what Tim might or might not do.

If I waited and watched for someone around me to get things started most likely they would never start; 100% a personal thing.

I hope Stu gets better and is able to meet his obligations and get back to as normal a life as he can have.
