without too much work (rebarrel a tad of chamber reaming and clean up) you can have a 50-505 and do d.g. hunts with hunting bullets and long range target shooting with spitzers. heck, all in one safari rifle. does this appeal to anyone here or do you have one?...basicly a 510 chey-tac 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Bwana-be one of us Posted 12 October 2005 13:39 Actually, I drew up a case awhile back, the Gibbs blown out, with the intention of shooting .510" BT spitzers. The COL was like 4.92" or so, just going off the BMG's neckbase-bullet tip dim. It had a little less than 3/5 the powder room of the BMG. Maybe 750g A-Max at 2450 fps? But, it would fit in a CZ.... Wonder how much freebore a 4" COL 600g solid would have. Could be a fun use of an MRCPH. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

Why not just use a 500 Jeffery. It's already .510 diameter. I have used the 750gr A Maxes, but they are not very accurate. The 1:18 twist and 2100fps just didn't jibe with the secant ogive bullet. I'm having some barrels done with a proprietary twist I developed using canted lands and 7 grooves that may do it, but I'll feel better pushing the 600gr bullets made just for this twist at 2500 out of this bbl. Those BMG bullets just don't do it for me in something that is supposed to be slow and heavy Hair, not Air! Rob Martin
