Michael RobinsonGreat buff!
I've heard that those Tanzanian National Park buff will stand still while you drive up to them in a Toyota, and that you can measure their horn spreads if you have a long enough tape measure.
How big are they, Bwanamich?

mouse93Cant help it but words by Anthony M. Williams from a book “Nyati” come to my mind:
“...I believe the final responsibility will fall to us as hunters to gently shepherd the buffalo through the next century. It will be no small task, and will sometimes take all our reserves. At its very basic level though, it will require that we always be fair, ethical and honourable in the way we hunt and interact with others. It will ask that we speak out where blatant injustice exists and be ready to back our convictions where ignorant turn a deaf ear. Above all else, it is my hope that you will learn to love the African buffalo through greater understanding, and by so doing, will ultimately have contributed to its future.”
Well – I'll drink to that – Cheers...

shakariSome great pics here.
Many (about 25) years ago, I was having a drink and a chat with the late & great "Uncle' Stevie Smith who later wrote 'The Hunter & the Go Away Bird' and was also the editor of Rowland Ward's Book of Records, and he kindly showed me his old photo albums.
As hard to believe as it is, some of the pics he had there of Buff from his days in East Africa put everything here in the shade...... I'd love to know what happened to those albums!
His book incidentally is one of the best 'African reads' I've ever come across. The gentle humour is wonderful and I can almost hear his voice every time I read it......
