Just wanted to give you guys the heads up that our company Facebook page has provoked a huge response from the anti-hunting crowd. Lots of death threats, saying all of us are, um, unequipped so we kill animals, the usual.

While we're not going to change anything about our page other than ban the ones threatening us and try to educate those willing to learn, I just figured you guys should get the heads up to watch what you post on Facebook concerning hunting. At the very least make sure you know who can see your posts.

YouTube is as bad, if not worse than Facebook about threatening posts.

A friend of mine posted a couple nice hunts on YouTube but ended up pulling the videos after he got death threats and even threatening phone calls! He can't figure out how they got his number but someone talked who knew of him.

He ended up having to change his phone number to stop the threats after the police refused to do anything...

Greg, I just looked at your Facebook page. The page is great, just can't get over how misinformed the people leaving all the nasty coments are. I wonder how many are wearing leather products and are eating meat, fish and fowl? They can't all be vegan.

Im a strong believer in posting photos/facts and educate the less knowing people about hunting. Good photos & good facts is the way to go. (Check Ivans FB page)

I even suggested to the boss himself that we need AR on Facebook. Smiler

I changed my FB photo to show a lion I just shot. I found out at a Board meeting yesterday that some people think I snuck up behind a SLEEPING lion..got a chuckle out of that. I will put the story together to share with you guys, but if you want to, have a look at David Avery Little on Facebook. I am prepared to defend my passion to anyone who complains or objects.

Greg,

Thanks for the heads up.

I dont "do" Facebook much, but it didn't stop them from finding me.

I have been receiving death threats for 14 years. All have been via email though. Only one on FB.

So far, I do not believe any of them have followed through with it!

Only a liberal would threaten guys who know how to use guns and have lots of them!

clap

No offence Greg as I really look up to you and I would love to have half your hunting experience. I just think by you posting this you are in some way ashamed at what you do and that you think you should hide the fact that you are a hunter.

I hope "they" haven't converted you buddy....

Todd

Haha, trust me it hasn't effected me in any way, I love what I do and nobody posting on Facebook or anywhere else for that matter can take that away! I'm just letting guys know that they're watching. We post a lot of photos of client's successes, but also try to put some educational information and quotes from famous hunters as well.

Interestingly enough a few of the photos they complained about were taken off of Facebook by their "Community Care" department, but are back up as of right now.

This is nothing new, except that it has gone digital.

I received many death threats during the 29 years I wrote twice-weekly outdoors columns for the Tucson Citizen. They came in telephone calls to my home (until I got an unlisted number) and letters to the newspaper.

Several were downright scary. The one I remember most included a couple of photos of my wife, daughter and I carrying groceries into our home.

Worse than the threats was the way my daughter was treated by certain teachers at her school because I killed animals.

What irritates me to death Greg, is that the initial criticism on Facebook was started by someone who has a lodge just outside of Bulawayo who travels to the hunting conventions marketing her lodge to hunters!

a few days ago i posted an inquiry on the taxidermy sub forum asking who might make repro elephant tusks. got a legitimate response there from Dennis asking for more info. also got 2 emails from someone named Beth and someone named Rachel wanting more info and pictures. their emails had no company or contact info and my email address isn't in my profile. how these 2 people got my email address is a mystery and for sure they were bogus since neither contained any reference to a taxidermy company.

I have posted many hunting pictures on facebook and never had any problems until a posted a picture of a giraffe that I took on my last trip. That picture started a frenzy and I had to delete most of the posts not because they bothered me, I have a pretty thick skin, but because of the fowl language they used. I was not to have that kind of language on my page.

Good Hunting,

My FB profile photo is me holding my leopard. I rarely have any issues. For my AHA page no one has ever made any comments yet. I get a few youtube threats a year. I just hit the delete button.

I was targeted by an anti hunting organisation some years ago and for about 6 months, the special branch thought the threat serious enough to have my calls and mail screened and have me check under the family cars before we drove them and it's a very unpleasant experience..... especially when they target you family as well as yourself. Mad

That said, in most countries, it's a criminal offence to threaten someone's life and I'd therefore encourage anyone who has had their life or personal security threatened in any way to go straight to the police, make a formal complaint and have them try to bring these nucking futters to justice.

At the end of the day, whilst they have the right to be vegetarians and believe what they like, we also have the right to hunt and eat meat etc..... and I seem to remember something about liberty in the US constitution....... so in other words. Don't take their shit lying down because that's what the bastards are relying on!

I have 1400+ followers on my Borderline Facebook page, the vast majority non hunting women, with a fair number of antis. Nobody on that page is in any doubt about my pro hunting stance - every now and then I post stats and facts about hunting, mostly using the Save as an example of how beneficial hunting is/can be. I don't stuff it in their faces and I don't post trophy pictures etc, but as I said, leave them in no doubt as to my personal feelings. They are all fully aware that I am a staunch proponent of controlled hunting. Nobody gives me lip and I have never banned anybody from that page.

Cheers, David

A bit naive IMHO.

You would be surprised what can be gleaned from a name, an IP address, cross ref with other bits of data.

A person once said on a forum about anonymity and various other bits. Just by having his first name, location and school he went to within 20 minutes he was shown a Google earth photo of his house and all other info related to his life. And that was by two different people working with no collaboration.

He was stunned.

Try shooting as many elephants and lion as we do on Tracks. Monday morning phone messages go from funny to downright chilling. I have handed death threats over to the FBI, along with return calls to the person making them to enjoy their FBI interview !

Ivan, I thought about that but we'd have to re-do the entire page to make it that way. At the moment you just have to "like" it to post. It doesn't require a friend request. We've never had to ban anyone before this week, but they came all at once this time so I had to ban some of them.

By the way, your Facebook page is great! Lots of information.

Thanks, GL, for the link to crow busters. The hate mail and the reponses make good reading and very funny.

The men who post their anti-hunting crap are the easiest to have some fun with. Just ask them what my mother said about them, "So, just how big is your vagnia?" That gets them really pissed off.

This is not a good situation. This has to stop, and the only way it will stop is if we make it stop. If you have been threatened, you need to report it right away. It should be reported to your local law enforcement agency, but more importantly, it should be reported to the FBI EACH TIME IT HAPPENS! This is domestic terrorism and a violation of your free speech rights. If the FBI receives complaints from hunters all over the country regarding the same thing, they will have to take action. Call them and report it EVERY TIME it happens. Be prepared to forward the email to them or to let them on your Facebook page to see the threats. Call them once a week to ask about their progress in stopping the threats. If you get no satisfaction from the FBI, call your Congressman once a week and ask about what response he has gotten from the FBI regarding your case. The way to stop this is to get a bunch of the domestic terrorists thrown in prison for nice long terms. Come on, this should be a fun hobby for those of you who have had this happen. Start a pool to see whose terrorist gets the most prison time. Just do it.

We reported each threatening letter to our sheriff's office, and each resulted in an interview by a deputy who, to a man, said there was no way they could protect me if someone really wanted to kill me.

They were able to lift fingerprints from the photos the one creep sent me, but nothing came of it. None of the letters or calls could be traced.

This happened in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, long before certain anti-hunting groups were declared to be terrorist organizations.
