COMMUNAL Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources has disbursed over $7 billion to villagers in Beitbridge District. Campfire national chairman Mr Jokorayi Nare distributed the money, which was raised from hunting and photographic safaris at the weekend.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Chipise Village, Mr Nare urged the communities to make good use of natural resources around them to enhance their social and economic development.
“We should learn to make good use of the resources around us so that we empower ourselves socially and economically.
“We should also complement Government’s efforts in the fight against the plundering of natural resources in the country,†he said.
He said some Campfire areas in the country had lost several wild animals due to increased poaching.
He added that the association was mobilising resources that would be channelled towards anti-poaching in collaboration with several stake-holders.
Cde Nare also called on Campfire beneficiaries to channel some of their proceeds towards community development projects such as schools, clinics and other social amenities as well as to drought mitigation programmes in drought-prone areas.
The largest amount of money from this year’s safari hunting trophies was given to Sentinel Pinwe Programme in Beitbridge, which received $775 458 750.
Other communities that benefited from the programme include Matshiloni villagers, Chivombwe Resettlement, River Ranch Ward, Maramani Ward, Malala, Ward 6 and Chipise in Ward 1.

eyedocHopefully villagers will not get anything individually. Instead maybe a centralized borehole can be drilled, or a school can get supplies, something along those lines. If it is done in any other way , it might as well be burnt for heat as pissed away.

I'm glad to see that the Communist/Socialist view has been aired. Government always knows best, especially in Zimbabwe.

yukon deltaI don't think CAMPFIR was ever intended to put money in the pockets of individual Africans in villages. The purpose has always been to benefit the whole community or village correct? Whether or not that ultimately happens and to what extent I wouldn't know but there are guys here who would have that info.
