I attended Jim Shockey's seminar at the SCI Convention. Mr. Shockey showed footage of his new series "The Professionals". This seems like it will be an excellent show and it will air on the Outdoor Channel about the end of June.

Below is a description of the show.

Jim Shockey’s The Professionals (series)
Launch Date: June 29
Time Slot: 7 pm
Plot: Takes viewers into the life of Jim Shockey and his production team as they travel to the world’s most dangerous outdoor destinations.
Stars: Jim Shockey

Amen to that!!! I've shot 30 of the damn things and I'd love to hunt more any opportunity I get, but........if I have to watch one more whitetail deer hunt on TV I'm going to claw my eyes out!!!!! It's what I grew up doing, so it's like watching paint dry on TV. I'm looking forward to the show.

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Let's hope we get to see the show this end of the world. Can't handle too many more of ESPN's re-runs of Johan Calitz - as good as they are !!!

No, Kobrine is not part of the show. Shockey's son Branlin is producing the show, my ex-partner and good friend, Corey Knowlton, is part of the show however.

It's hard for me to explain the difference from his current show, but it is different, I can tell you that. I like the fact that its lots of exciting, international hunting, with big trophies!!

Is it different, Aaron, in that Jim will shoot a real rifle whether bolt or double? I think if someone was a muzzleloading hunter he would use a good representative copy of a plains rifle or Hawken. Just my thought.

While whitetail hunting is vastly over done, have you ever seen a calling turkey hunt that was any different than the last one?

I agree, almost as repetitious as Bass fishing shows.
I like Shockey because you see the guy sweating and working his ass off.

Dutch - I do think Jim will hunt a bit more with a rifle, etc, but don't quote me on that. I've talked to him about it some, but can't say I have a good answer for that.

However, I do think you will see more of Corey and other hunters, maybe Jim's clients, that sort of thing, doing a fair bit of the hunting. Again though, that could change so don't quote me.

They are trying to make it an exciting, action packed show, with an emphasis on diversity and culture throughout the different places they hunt, but still keeping to Jim's motto, of shooting trophy animals!

Corey just asked me on Monday to go to Tanzania with him in 2011 and shoot an episode or two of the show highlighting Tanzania.

The episode he showed me at his house in January was from Pakistan, it was AWESOME!!!

Isn't that the truth. That and bass fishing, but turkey hunting is MUCH worse!!!!

There's really no choice as far as Interantional hunting is concerned. It's become impossible to fly with the necessary components for the mzl hunt.

I think the main difference in the new show is that it covers a lot of "behind the scenes"
videos that the regular show never touches on.

All of the JS shows are good and I would suspect the new series will be just as good or better.

I love to turkey hunt but will be the first to admit that it does not make a good hunting show.

I really like Shockey's show, one of the better ones for sure.
However this statement is lame:

quote:

Stars: Jim Shockey

Seriously...hyperbole much?

First ascents on peaks in the Karakorums? Solo paddling the sections of the White Nile above Murchison??
Or comfortable hunting camps perhaps?

I have no doubt they will hunt dangerous animals and be in uncomfortbale weather, but really, whose their target audience? 16 year old boys looking for freestyle moto-x entertainment?

The new episode on Tuesday is scheduled to be hunting Sessee Island Sitatunga in Uganda.

From the previews, looks like a very different African hunting show.
