I have an issue with the show lately
It doesn't show what's on it or which episode it is.
I understand marketing, but I'm getting to a point where I don't wanna watch it, because I have no idea what's on at all
Anyone else feels that way or am I the big baby here?

I guess I really don't need to know in advance, "what's going to be on it this week", I'll watch no matter what. Might peak my interest to know the covered subject, but like I said, I am watching it regardless.

I'm still confused by "Dark and Dangerous." It seems to air irregularly, and the last few weeks are reruns of earlier shows. I DVR them so I can watch from my treadmill, and without any program info listed, the machine just keeps recording old episodes instead of waiting for a new one.

Morning Guys
Let me give this a shot. In an effort to "freshen up" our African TV business we made some changes. Tracks Across Africa is in it's 9th season on Outdoor Channel, one of the networks longest running series. After it airs in 3rd and 4th quarters of this year that will have been 234 episodes of the best safari action we know how to provide. I think of Tracks as a documentory style show. The hunter arrives, starts his hunt, the hunt progresses, then the hunt concludes by taking his trophy in segment four. It has worked pretty well, and will continue to follow the same theme when it returns in July. We decides to make a change this year by building a new series, "Dark and Dangerous" that would have a different look, timing, and feel. To often people just fast forward through an episode to get to the "good stuff" meaning the kill shot to some people. We try to make the entire show the good stuff, and show the safari experience in it's entirety, not just a version of hunting porn that places all the emphasis on the "money shot." D&D takes multiple story lines and moves back and forth until each hunt comes to a conclusion and another safari is injected into the series. Our thoughts were to create a show that the viewer would stay glued to for 30 minutes for fear of missing out on a exciting bit of action or conclusion. Depending on the week, some hunts will bleed over into the next week before they wrap. Guys, we knew there would be some creative risks here, but believe in time that it is a unique format. Lots of folks obviously agreed this year as Dark and Dangerous won a much coveted Golden Moose Award at the Outdoor Channel awards event, something we had never accomplished with Tracks. But we may have made one decision that is creating confusion expressed on this thread, which is this. Typically on a 26 week run, which is what D&D is, we run 13 new episodes, then repeat. This year, just to give us some breathing room editing wise, we are running D&D as seven new episodes, repeat, then six new, then repeat. This explains why it seems you are seeing the same stuff over a shorter time period. You are. I doubt if we will run it again like that as I tend to agree that you see re-runs in too short a time frame. Next year it will be the standard 13 new episodes in one quarter, then repeat in the next quarter. I have DISH network, and it also records the same episode three times. Remember, each episode runs three times per week for better chances of viewing for folks that do not have DVR. Lord knows we are in a tough business, this pay to play outdoor TV game. We do it because we love Africa, the safari experience, and the chance to share it with guys and gals such as yourselves who share our passion. I hope this helps clear things up as to some of the questions raised. We really do listen, and equally important, we appreciate the feedback. It is impossible to make everyone happy on creative changes. But we do it to keep up with a market which demands changes from time to time, and we do it because we think whatever change we make will improve our product. Tracks will be back in the 3rd quarter, but in the mean time I hope Dark and Dangerous will grow on you. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Al I can say is its a great show and thanks for the feedback
The only thing that Id like to see is maybe episodes would be number so we all know which one is which, otherwise it is confusing to say the least.
You are right Dave. It is the best show out here

I love the show too, but I spend as much time editing out the re-recorded segement as I do watching and it's frustrating. I don't see where Id'ing the episode for the dvr crowd alters the 7+6 or editing breathing room. I'm looking for the next episode because it's enjoyable, but often frustrating to have to watch the first few min to remember I've seen it and it's not the continuation episode.

I'm sorry, but jumping back and forth between snippets of three different hunts in one 30 minute segment kills my interest. I would really prefer one complete hunt per episode. Continuity is important. I have trouble connecting mentally with a poorly shot eland in Cameroon and watching guys walk, and walk-- and then keep walking-- and then getting into a follow up on a leopard in Zimbabwe. The TAA format is much better to watch, the industry award notwithstanding.

I also preferred the traditional format. Perhaps it's a geezer alert, my generation still has an attention span.
Notwithstanding, it's still a fun show, and I look forward to new episodes. It would be nice, as others have noted, to have some kind of identity tag so the DVR can tell a new episode from one already recorded.

In the spirit of you can please some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time, here is a thread from earlier this year generally expressing how much everyone enjoyed the new format:

Sorry Dave, seems like just like everyone's mileage varies, so does their opinion on show format.

I like D&D the way it is. I recorded it and watched it yesterday. I also watched "House of Cards" last night for the first time...I couldn't convince MsAZW to watch Saeed's video (even though our buddy Tony is a star in the show) or D&D. I have to say that show House of Cards just illustrates why I don't watch much TV. Can't see what the fuss is all about.

I like D&D very much, but prefer TAA with the "one hunt". scenario.
Regardless, I'm going to watch them both every time I can.

Cool Unfortunately it seems that the exponentialism in foolish consistency, small minds, and probably hobgoblins for that matter, frequently comes from other international venues and does not seem to be uniquely American. Eeker

Ok everyone. It's a great show with the glitch of not knowing what episode it is until you start watching it
I still think it's a great debate and always a bit of room for improvements and I for one appreciate everyone's input and especially Dave Fulsons
I don't think there is any reason to get snippy
Still a perfect world where we can hunt elephants

Die, I thought soap opera's were actors doing and saying things according to a script in a studio. D&D is live, as it happens, dangerous game hunting with real PH's and real client hunters. A bit of a difference, don't you think? I believe the format, not the action is the rub with some of you here, and I get that, as well as listen to that, but soap opera.
Look my friend, maybe you can record The Bachelor and watch it next time our show comes on. Then again, Honey BooBoo, and Storage Wars are options as well. Good Lord...

Dave, I am sorry if I offended you. As I saw the program you went from one country to another each week following a specific hunt. The next week you did the same with the continuation of each of the hunts. So if one was interested in the complete hunt they must tune in each week i e soap opera. Sorry you didn't follow. I do record most of my TV viewing as it allows me to skip the commercials (I know they pay for the programing) except in the hunting shows they get the commercial during the programing i e the host or guest says using my XX brand of rifle using brand yy scope and loaded with XX ammunition, wear brand ZZ boots etc.

Fair enough. Guys, we're just trying to make interesting TV that depicts the safari experience. It is not easy, is getting less profitable each year, and takes us away from family, friends, and home for stupid amounts of time each year.
Maybe I'm the guy in the wrong here, as I know producing Honey BOOBOO or Storage WARS is not only easier, less dangerous, but a hell of a lot more profitable. Hummmm...

I like the show myself. What I have an issue with which is not under Dave's control is that our local cable provider shows the same show (the first episode) over and over and over. It must have been on 20 times locally. Plus the description of the show on our cable is very generic. One can't tell if it is a new show or not.

The thought that I would be relegated to watching Pigman, Michael Waddell or some other nimrod for hunting television scares the daylights out of me.
