just finished watching a hunting show on TV in which the hunter and his wife attempted a Scottish McNabb- i.e. to bag a hill stag and a brace of grouse plus catch a salmon all in the same day. brought back a fond memory of a 4 years ago in RSA. i was visiting a friend's farm in Zululand on my way back from a Moz hunt. the farm was originally a trout farm with cottages built along a series of dams running down a hillside and he was converting it to a game ranch.got in late at night and early the next morning, got up, took a fly rod that was in the cottage and walked a few yards to the dam. 10 minutes later i had caught a nice rainbow and brown trout, which we ate for breakfast. afterward he asked if i wanted to shoot something. i knew he had mountain reedbuck and quickly said yes. we took his rifle to the range, checked the rig and then loaded the cruiser. 2hours later we were back with a nice mountain reedbuck( which i had never even seen before, much lees shot). after lunch and a nap, he asked what else i might want to do.i had seen a lot of guineas so i asked if we could try to walk up a few. 3 hours later we were back with a brace of guinea fowl. that night at supper with his wife he asked if i knew that i had bagged a South African McNabb? i of course didn't know what he was talking about and he explained it to me. he and his his wife made a bit of a big deal about it and it remains one of my fondest hunting memories funny how sometimes its the little things from a hunting trip that stick in your memory!

How about a Texas one-

Dec 24th -1989

White tail buck
turkey
3 ducks
several Large mouth bass
catfish
coyote

It was a VERY GOOD DAY-

Actually jumpshot the turkey with shotgun while walking up lake backwaters hunting ducks. It was like shooting the worlds biggest quail.

Congrats, too cool.

In South Dakota it is walleye, pheasant, and a whitetail deer in the eastern side of the state.

On the prairie it could be bass, sharptail grouse, antelope.

In the Black Hills, trout, ruffed grouse and elk would be splendid, but deer is more realistic.

I have never accomplished any of them.

I believe if you bed the scullery maid that evening it qualifies as a Royal McNabb

Round these parts, that could result in a heap of scratching and a life-time swallowing anti-retrovirals. Wink

Outfit in Nambia at which I regularly hunt advertises a "MCNAM" that has you on the coast at Henties Bay surf casting for an eating fish of >10 lbs and a bronze shark of >50 lbs (weights as I recall). Then up to the farm south of Etosha pan for an antelpe (gemsbok or kudu or what have you) and finally a guinea fowl or sand grouse.

Not done it myself as I'm not a fisherman...

Regards

My first trip to Africa we were in Natal Province and the host suggested we try for the McNabb. In the morning we shot a bushbuck, then a Francolin..Went in for lunch and they pulled out the fly rods. Being a fly tyer, I tied a made up fly with one of the Francolin feathers and proceeded to catch a nice German brown trout..As we were packing up my host got a call on his cell phone that someone had bombed the twin towers..It was 9/11..Never will forget that hunt.

That is a great story. I would love to shoot a kudu, catch a tigerfish, and shoot a guinea or two on the same day!

Forgive me, either you don't pay very close attention or you know something I don't.

Mike Scoby is editor of Petersen's HUNTING. Alice Puluchova is married, but not to Mike.

But it was a good show; it brought back good memories of Scotland.

i made the stupid assumption that a man and women hunting together were married. too old fashioned i guess. i do know my wife might not be too pleased with me going hunting with someone else's wife.

Just catching up on old threads, saw the title, and I wondered why someone started a thread in the African hunting forum about a washed up Philadelphia Eagles quarterback. Confused

Well you better learn how since you are headed to Andrew's Royal Kafue later. I left two top flight fishing rigs with Ben , Andrew's son, who's a keen fisherman. He will set you up with some Barbel rigs I left and you will quickly appreciate the joy of fishing in waters with Hippo and Croc. Big Grin

Not to mention the Barbel is quite tasty.
