Animal charity with Denver ties sues U.S. in bid to expose African elephant trophy permitting program

The group wants the agency to reveal how many permits were issued between Dec. 1, 2017 and April 5, 2018

Friends of Animals has sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in its quest to learn how many permits the agency granted to hunters importing African elephant sport-hunted trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Friends of Animals filed a civil lawsuit Tuesday asking a judge in U.S. District Court in Denver to issue an injunction ordering the agency to reveal how many permits were issued between Dec. 1, 2017, and April 5, 2018.

The international nonprofit animal advocacy group is trying to expose the Fish and Wildlife Service’s practice of issuing “threatened species permits” for African sport-hunted elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia, according to the lawsuit filed by Centennial attorney, Jennifer Best, assistant legal director of the nonprofit’s law program.

The 200,000-member group filed a Freedom of Information Act request on April 5, but Fish and Wildlife has failed to deliver the documents “free of cost.” The charity seeks to free animals from cruelty and exploitation around the world.

“The prompt release of information is essential due to immediate public interest,” the lawsuit says. “This data will help Friends of Animals further its mission and deepen public understanding of the current crisis African elephants are facing and the effect sport-hunting has on African elephants.”

The lawsuit was filed in Denver federal court because the charity’s Friends of Animals’ Wildlife Law Program is located at 7500 E. Arapahoe Road, Centennial.

Friends of Animals has requested copies of all documents related to import permits Fish and Wildlife issued or denied for permission to import elephant trophies to the U.S.

The charity is also seeking all documents and data relating positive or negative studies on the Fish and Wildlife permitting process.

Does anyone know of anyone getting a permit in that timeframe?

When I talked with someone from FWS about three weeks ago concerning the lack of communication about my permit the answer was no permit decisions had been made concerning Ele.

Charities that get involved in litigation should be boycotted!

In fact, they should loose their tax exempt status.

They are supposed to help animals, not fight legal battles.

... at the expense of their supporter/donors; they are already taking a great chunk to pay for their salaries and other perks. coffee

These animal rights nonprofits exist to feed themselves and push the liberal progressive anti-gun/anti-hunting agenda. And they are funded by blind cultists who have been fully indoctrinated into the progressive ideology.

In 2016, FoA raised $2.7 million and spent $1.2 million on salaries and compensation. Just like some of the notorious political "family foundations", few of the dollars raised actually find their way to achieving their "cause".

They use it to name and shame the permit recipients like they did Walter Palmer.

All of these non-profit scams should be required to list full details on salaries, expense accounts, donations etc. Shine the bright light on the Roach and watch it scurry into hiding. These organizations prey on the emotions of weak minded dimwits, who, for a tote bag and "adopt a pet" photo, will send in their $19 per month, all the while believing they are stopping animal abuse. Ever wonder why they always show wet, mud covered, shivering animals (cats & dogs) sitting in the rain? They (HSUS) got rid of Wayne Percell due to inappropriate sexual advances when the spotlight fell on his scheming ass. Time to turn on the lights!

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
