Many great mounts were there as usual. The 1st place best in the world went to the Zimmerman boys in PA with the #2 Gobi Argali taken by Rob Kreb (it is a monster, I promise. I'll get a pic soon). 2nd and 3rd went to Dennis Harris including the new Chairman's Choice Award. You can see why:

There is more to this mount but my batteries died. An eighth Wolf is lying on the flood in the front of the mount.
Here's his 3rd place Best in World Bongo:

I will post more in the Taxidermy forum soon. I posted some waterfowl mounts in the Bird shooting forum.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Wow... the moose and wolves are phenomenal!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Marcus is pretty good. Have 4 mounts by him in my office and he will be doing my Chobe Bushbuck when it gets state side. It is nice to have one of the worlds best in your back yard. I guess I shouldn't one of the best just the best. I had him do my Water Deer, Roe Deer, Sika Deer and Fallow from England and Scotland. Oh by the way Marcus's last name is Zimmerman. He is assisted by his brother and son.

To each his own, but I don't care for mounts that show predators attacking an animal, etc. Just give me a regal pose of the animal the way I remember seeing him in the wild.

+1

I'm not a big fan of taxidermy in general, but I much prefer regal poses to action poses.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

MR, yes, it is inspiring to see true artists think outside the box.
For those who don't know what the World Competitions are, it is for Taxidermists to bring raise their artistic creations to the next level. It's not necessarily for the standard wall mount or pose. They are judged by their peers, and the judging is intense to say the least.
Ed, these were not done by the Zimmerman's. I will try and post a pic of the Gobi Argali as soon as I get the CD from by friend. I used his camera to take 95% of my photos.

They copied from Marcus as I saw the same mount in his shop 3 or 4 years ago, only with Sheep and Wolves. He had done it as a teaching piece at the national show.

great mount! the only thing i dont like is the wolf for is so similar for all the leaping wolves. the back half of them are all the same, no deviation in foot position or leg bends... but that's a pretty nit-picky critic on such a huge undertaking...

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

If you want to be picky, how about the total lack of blood?

AAZW, I once saw a gruesome head and shoulder mount of a Spanish fighting bull in a small restaurant in Spain that would be right up your alley.

The toro was bristling with banderillas and covered in some kind of fake bloody sand.

Not a bad mount, but not my cup of blood. Didn't go well with the tapas and cava.

I like both action and regal. I like habitat poses. If I shot a dangerous animal I'd wanted it mounted as if it were attacking, I always imagine sitting at my desk with a lion mounted leaping out of the wall, from about shoulder forward, claws out and mouth snarling. Big Grin

I saw one at SCI a few years ago with a croc coming out of the water snatching some sort of deer type plainsgame animal (can't remember what species now) that was awesome.

The moose and wolves may well be the finest mount I've ever seen.

Amazing! I especially love the whimsical (?) touch provided by the wolf clawing its way onto the rear portion of the base. It's almost as if you need that reminder to drive home the fact that this is taxidermy rather than real-life action. The unseen eighth wolf must also add to this greatly.
