I think that's Walter's electronic fly swatter...

The mirroor was a good guess, but that would be too scary for him, bless.
Indeed its his personal Fly Swatter, I gave it to him only after making sure its even approved for children under 5.

Would it be safe to assume that Walter is the oldest kid in Dubai and other locales when he is present !

We have just returned to camp for lunch, after shooting an old waterbuck.

This concludes our hunt for this year, where everyone had a great time.

We have the shooting contest this afternoon.
Walter is the MC for the contest. I just looked at their tent, and had to make a hastry retreat, as the sight of him and Nelson in their underwear is not something one enjoys.

They are complaining that it is too hot to have clothes on.

Funny that, as Idefinitely do not think it is hot here this year at all.

We are going to put some bones across the ruiver from the camp -about 60 yards distance. Which we hope will give us the chance of getting some action photos of the vultures and marabou storks.

Our flight leaves about midday tomorrow from the bush.

I will try to post some photos of the shooting contest later in the day.

This post brought a touch of sadness. Once again, thank you for sharing your adventure, I hope you can share your DVD again this year.

Travel safe.

May I answer this one for now?
Saeed has mentioned his camera details above but in addition to that you might want to know he uses adobe lighthouse but NEVER photoshops nor adjusts anything, except underwater pictures then he might lower the saturation a little to bring out the real colors.
As for stunning results..he has a tremendous patience, takes SOOOOO many pictures per seconds at any given time and place (and I complain even more trying to look through them after) and he is always chilled and focus on target like he does when he shoots and voila ... superb results.

Both times I've been with Saeed in Tanzania I have been very impressed with his level of focus, patience and imagination for unique photo opportunities. I am sure you are right that his focus and steady hand accounts for much of the quality.

Congrats on your croc Saeed. Another beauty. Hopefully this one did not decide to get up and walk back to the river from the skinning shed in the middle of the night! (that still makes my skin crawl a little to think about!)

Best regards,
Chris

I was wondering about that too.

During my hunt in British Columbia a few years ago I saw 2 guys (from a group of 8 on their annual Moose hunt) who could not group 12" at 200 yards. Yet one of them scored on a nice bull moose!

I guess when you go on a low budget economy hunt such as this one, you have to settle for the little cape calves such as the 3 shot that one day. Now down here in Texas we use that size for roping practice. Rope em and tie 3 legs together. When they get a little bigger use them for bull dogging. Then when grown we ride them. That size croc we use for fish bait.
Seriously a great thread. Wish the pictures had more information and the people identified. Thanks for sharing it with us. I truly enjoyed it.

I thank you for all of the updates and really great pictures. Al tho I am surprised that no one has commented on the crock jaw that is pictured with your knife and recovered bullets.

Again I thank you and have a safe return.

We will see, I might prefer to exit AR on a high note and leave the hunting details to you all, after all, too many great cooks spoils the soup..
Reminds me that Walter and co are invited to a Sunday roast here day after tomorrow.
(Did I mention that we did have a surplus of Iguanas?)

I think he found it little tricky to stay connected with the satelite modem at times, hence kept reports/information short. As for identifying people etc on pictures is easy: same (ish) old crowd. (Walter is the one that looks like the missing link between E Hemingway and Kenny Rodgers.)
However Saeed did indeed take the time to introduce some new faces, Fred, Gladis and Stalin and so on.

Walter and me are back in Dubai, Nelson is on his way to Chile.

We all had an absolutely great safari.

I have used the time on the flight to conver some video clips for you, which I am uploading to the server right now.

We have several Gigs of video footage, some of it is absolutely helarious!

In fact, we have had so many screw ups that if we had someone behind us with a video camera, we would have the best comedy show on safari ever produced!

We had a Hero GoPro action camera with us, and it was suggested that I wear it facing backwards on the back of my head. To record Roy's antics while he is filming Alan's and mine!

And as requested by some of you, I will have plenty of photos to post as well.

Ron,

Alan, Roy and Rene, send their best regards.

Alan's new operation is great.

Both the mess tent and sleeping tents are exactly the same as we had TGT the past few years.

Rene was running the camp, and anytime we were in the camp one was made to feel right at home.

Walter, of course, did not want Rene or Alan to relax, so he never stopped complaining of one thing or another.

First day in camp he complained that the fried eggs were different shape to the toast! And would Rene do something about it!

The next day we had fried eggs that fit the toast - I have the photos.

His next complait was that he preferred boiled eggs. And as it happened, they had boiled eggs for us to take in the lunch box.

They were not good enough. As they were hard boiled, he wanted them soft!

"Only Saeed eats eggs like that! I want mine soft boiled, in an egg cup"

I said "Better wait until you get home to your wife, you can give orders to her, not here"

He said "Don't remind me of my wife. I already miss her. Until I see her"

Everyone burst out laughing.

I was the only person who had him on a short leash, as he was using my rifle to hunt with, and when he complained about the timing of the opening of the Internet Cafe, I told him I would put a password on it for access.
That brought his complaining to end, saying
"Typical dictator!"

I said "Well, make your mind up. Last year you did not fair too well in our democracy, as you got voted out of the truck. Now you don't like my decisions"

"I am going to my tent"
"Good, we are going to have some peace and quiet for a while then"
"Not a chance. I will be back as soon as I get my camera. I will make you all suffer!"

"Better be careful. You might get thrown over the edge into the river"

"Then I will stay in my tent and watch a movie on my ipad"

Just a normal day in our hungting camp.

I have had questions regarding shooting buffalo in the neck and head.

There is really nothing to it, as all one has to do is be accurate.

The last three buffalo I shot together, I shot one in the head because he was making a beeline straight for us. Not in an aggressive manner, but still he was walking on the same game trail that we were standing on, and he was very close, less than 20 yards.

Of the other two, both had been shot through the chest, one was down, and the second was still on his feet. And the only part that was clear to me was his head. He was about 100 yards away.

The buffalo have their brain quite high in the head, so one has to take this into consideration when shooting.

The first bull I shot on this safari was shot in the neck. He was about 100 yards away, and a neck shot was the only option I had.

Some PHs tend not to like neck or head shots, due to the fear that a marginal hit will not disable the animal, and might entail a lengthy follow up job.

Saeed,
Thanks to Alan, Roy, and Rene for their kind regards. I am honored.
My best regards to the Vincents too.
They are made of "The Right Stuff," unlike Walter. Wink

13 HD video shorts up and running, more of The Right Stuff! It is wonderful to watch some great natural history and hunting in clarity like being there.
Very educational for this nimrod.

Saeed said:

An undeniable truth. thumb

I practiced on a deer last weekend, and got lucky if not good, for my first game taken with a flintlock.
Used a 40-caliber squirrel rifle like Davy Crockett's Ol' Betsy, his first rifle.
'Twas a .395-caliber Hornady lead ball weighing 93.5 grains at about 2150 fps, with 60-grains of FFFg blackpowder.
The doe went down where she stood, neck shot, at 73 yards.
When the smoke cleared, there was just one twitch of her whitetail where she lay.
I am learning the joys of neck shots! tu2

Excuse the highjack please!
Just bragging.
Now back to the show.
I had to pop some corn for that last batch of videos.
