The meat our trackers and game scout were cooking was an impala liver and heart.

The bullet was recovered from the eland. He was about 200 yards, and the bullet broke one shoulder and his spine and lodged under the skin on the other side.

We have two leopards feeding, but so far have not seen any yet.

Yesterday was a relatively easy day for us.

Left in the morning to check some baits, found an Out Circle kongoni and I shot him.

Drove around looking for duggaboys, drove around looking for zebra. Saw some but had no chance at a shot.

Roy shot an impala on the way back to camp for lunch.

In the afternoon we thought we will drive to a thicket by the river, about 8 Kiometers from camp, and see what we might come across.

We were walking along, when suddenly we heard a loud russling in the bush very close by, and saw a bush pig running.

We shot him, an headed back to camp.

I can hear the hyenas making a racket right now.

The plan today is to see what is going on with our croc baits - we have two out.

Then look for some duggaboys.

This is a message from THE Wife regarding the the LEG WOUND:
Saeed - do you recall our conversation at the kitchen table before you left..? Pack the antibiotic cream etc..."No daring- dont fuss, Ill use my perfume as usual" Hm.. I really dont like the redness shooting out from wound. Post an updated photo and Ill ask my sister to look at it. If you dont..Ill ask Rene ( or Roy )to give you expiered anitbiotics for animals
( remember..?!.)
This is a message for Walter the camp clown. Let me just put it this way: If you think I have been bad in Chete & Matetsi camp by letting you stalk and shoot Zebra look alike blanket, colored your hair orange made you eat chocolate covered impala etc..Ahh you dont know whats coming your way.. Go and wound a waterhog LOG ( not leg)instead you are so good at that.

Hannah, welcome to AR.

Walter has done it now. He may not return to face your music.

I'm sure Saeed is going to be just fine, over the past 22 years I've seen worse.

Saeed, great pictures as always, take HNH's advice old man. Or you'll get it as bad as Walter upon your return.

Don,
Thank you...my first post since AR start 1997! Regarding wounds...You are forgetting that I have been there many many times and I have seen my fair share..I just got a bad feeling about this one. Probably because Walter was involved.
Husbands 'cure all' is an IV remedy of gallons of Tabasco and Lemon juice, should that fail, apply Perfume directly.
Thank you for your support though!
ps; I gave Walter the extendable fork so he can pick food easier (and poor table neighbours can avoid his sticky fingers)however I should have dipped the end of it in Brazilian frog juice for a little extra kick i realize now.

Greetings to your wonderful wife and family.

I just wrote a long post, mostly abou Walter feeling sorry for himself, and the Internet connection went off!

I will try to post it later.

Yesterday I shot a waterbuck, and we spent the rest of the day playing monkey business with hippos and crocs. We were trying to shoot a croc in a large pool with about 100 hippos.

Some did not take kindly to us getting close. Especially a cow we named Gladdis, and a bull we called Fred!

We did not want to shoot either of them, but both were intent on keeping us all on our toes.

Saeed, my friend, you have been hiding the leg wound?
Please reassure us that all is well.

Surely you have not forgotten the need for a periodic "wound check" if there is anything suspicious going on ... like those red streaks on your one and only, initial "wound check."

Just one more picture?
Just to show how your super-human vitality has healed you almost completely by now?

Things will go a lot nicer for you when you get home if you will only post that one more picture of your powerful leg. Wink

About the Tabasco and citrus:
Is that just your usual evening appetizer of sliced lime and Tabasco,
or have you taken to rubbing it into the wound?
Madam HnH is surely joking about you injecting it intravenously!

On a different but related subject:
I am surely glad to hear independent confirmation (from a trustworthy source this time) that Walter eats chocolate covered impala droppings.
I could not believe it the first time I heard the story.
Now we know what happened to Walter, the impala droppings went straight to his brain!

Altogether now, a collective boo-hoo for Walter feeling sorry for himself. CRYBABY
Some more chocolate for Walter is in the works, no?

Good advice from IBTB for Saeed to see a 'Medical competent person' but where they are, I am afraid to inform you, that it would be Walter. Purely because of his extensive experience in the emergency ward for him self or damages inflicted to others.

With all due respect, I would like to echo my concern about your injury with a little anecdote from history.

The Fifth Earl of Carnarvon, went to Egypt for his health. On 5 April 1923, Carnarvon died in the Continental-Savoy Hotel in Cairo, in the Kingdom of Egypt. His death is most probably explained by blood poisoning (progressing to pneumonia) after accidentally shaving a mosquito bite infected with erysipelas.

This admittedly in a time before anti-biotics! But in those lands a wound, even a small one is cause for concern.

Continued good luck with your hunt and thanks for your reports.

George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon (1866-1923)

We had to get Walter out of his misery about my wound, or he would not be able to start his hunt.

In fact, he is celebrating tomorrow by cooking us all a BBQ.

He was far too miserable to do it before!

We had a bit of fun today. We think Walter has been messing with Roy's rifle. As Roy had to shoot almost a box of ammo to get on target.

Roy of course got no sympathy from any of us - it is pay back time!

We finished sighting in his rifle, and went to look at our croc bait. The bait was the hippo we shot a few days ago. It is tied to a tree in the water by the river's edge.

One cannot see the bait unless one gets to edge of the river.

As we approached, and were may be 20 yards from the edge, we heard lions growling.

We beat a hasty retreat as quietly as we could, and walked down river to get to the bank to see what is going on. Suddenly a young male comes out, and walks parallel to us about 40 yards away.

He disappeared, and we continued to the edge of the river, and went down to te water so we could look at the bait.

We saw a lioness and two cups, about a year old. They were having feast on the hippo.

They saw us, and the cubs ran across the river. The mother ran back into the bush, then the cups changed their minds and ran back after their mother.

There were no crocs.

We went looking for buffalo. Then just before lunch, we found a waterbuck with a broken horn, and decided to shoot him.

Then we had our lunch at the same place as you can see above where the impala is lying.

As soon as we finished lunch, we continued looking for buffalo.

We were driving along the top of a ridge, and stopped to look in the valley below.

I saw something dark moving at the far bank of the river, and on close inspection saw that they were 3 duggaboys.

These were the same one who gave us the run around a few days ago, as one had a broken horn.

We ran down to the meet them.

We got down just in time before they entered the forest, and we managed to shoot all three.

Roy shot two, and I shot one.

Roy did his usual trick of last year - he cut his forehead with the scope again!

We are going to concentrate on a coc tomorrow, and hopefully will get back to camp early and post some photos for you.

Well, there he goes again.
Roy is tough as shoe leather, and has a hard head ... proof in that he did not change the scope setup as I recommended to him last year. old
Old dogs are hard to teach new tricks.
Doctor Walter, Barber-Surgeon, took care of Roy last time, and he survived that too ...

I don't wish to use much more of Saeed's valuable band width but that is an extremely beautiful woman.

I will leave it at that.

If only we could get as high resolution photo of Roy's forehead as we got of that biltong ...

BTW that was a beaut of a bushpig, the day before latest, so glad to see they truly do exist in Tanzania, for real, instead of just "on license" mythical.
Nice addition to the bag.
Was it shot in the ear or the forehead?
(Strange skin lesion between right eye and snout, and entrance wound on right ear flap?)

Latest: Another outstanding day on the range buckeroos!

Home, home on the range,
Where the waterbuck and buffalo play.
Where never is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Home sweet home Tanzania.

We are so fortunate that Saeed lives there for a month each year,
and all of accuratereloading.com gets to enjoy the vicarious expeditionary entertainment. clap

The old traditional goodluck wish for the send-off/bonvoyage was "Break a leg!"

This trip is going so well after "wound a leg" that it makes me wonder if Walter has brought Saeed good luck?

Yep, that's it, if Saeed survives the trip, Walter will become a heroic good luck charm! Wink
Maybe for the next trip some piece of Walter's anatomy could be removed, preserved, and just carried along on the bakkie each day for good luck?
Maybe an ash bag made from some of Walter's hide, to test the wind?

Nobody is talking about where Walter got the IED, there may be an accomplice in camp!!!

I hear Alan Vincent is running his own safari company now. He is the boss.
Roy and Rene have helped him build this bush operation from scratch, in the Selous.
That is quite a haul in deepest Tanzania, logistics and infrastructre for a camp fit for royalty, from the ground up.
Hauling, building, wiring, plumbing, first, and then just as exhaustion is setting in, the expedition arrives, needing day-to-day supervision, especially Walter!

You don't know how close to the truth you are! Walter is only one of the empty headed friends I have that my wife has to put up with!

Our friends say she would go straight to heaven, as she has paid all her dues on earth already!

Hanna is the only person Walter is more scared of than me.

The first time we went all together to Zimbabwe, Walter started giving her a hard time, so she decided to give him a lesson he would not forget.

Walter loves chocolate.
So Hanna collected some impala droppings, went to the kitchen, and melted chocolate over them.

Made them look like chocolate covered peanuts.

She offered him some after dinner, and as he usually does, he took a very large chunk and plopped it into his mouth, andf started chewing!

He has been on his toes ever since as far as Hanna is concerned.

The other days he actually said "do you think she will forgive me for this?"

I told him "of course not!"
The look on his face was priceless.

Today we had quite a bit of rain, and only went in the late afternoon to the crocs. We had the usual games with Fred and Gladis, and managed to shoot a hyaena that came to feed on the croc bait.

We just finished a great BBQ, and our plan is to leave early in the morning as usual.

That is if the rain stops. It is mactually pouring down right now.

I have not had time to process the photos, hopefully tomorrow I will post some.
