Walter is coming, but he is not hunting this year. He has some health issues, and found it very hard hunting last year. So he is going to be keeping Rene's company at camp, which he enjoys very much. And he has more time to prepare more BBQ's which he is very good at. Maktoum and Pete, his normal hunting partners, will enjoy their hunt without having to worry about him in the field. They have had a few scary moments with him, but luckily he came out fine. We just do not wish to have any repeats.

Yes, I noticed in the last hunt video you sent to members that Walter seemed to struggle through. This time knowing he is safe back at camp should relieve everybody of some stress. Good that he is going along though to complete the usual team. Would be sad to have hunt videos without him. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

We have 3 days left before we head off to Mlele. Roy and Rene arrive tomorrow. Walter came back yesterday from another holiday! We have not informed Pete that Walter is not hunting this year. Did not want him to be drunk celebrating! Maktoum is going to try his luck at hunting a buffalo with his bow. Wasn't so successful last year. They did get very close to a few bulls, but the bush wasn't helping. He kept scratching his head while showing me the videos, and me saying "BANG! Dead buffalo" Each time there is a gap in the bush! We had three occasions where I shot 3 buffalo where he should have had a chance at one with his bow last year. Hopefully his luck will be better this year. I will post my hunt report on this thread, as it is relevant to our preparations for the hunt.

Roy, Rene and Walter wanted to fly in the paramotor. So first thing in the morning is the best time for that. We headed off to the desert, Maktoum brought his paramotor, and Louise brought his trimotor for the amateurs. Everyone had a fantastic time, and tomorrow we fly to Mlele. As I mentioned before, Walter is taking a rest from hunting, as his legs can only carry him to the dining table. He is actually thrilled, that he will not have to put up with Maktoum and Pete forcing him to walk for miles and miles.

Mio amico, I am heading out tomorrow on a hunting and tourism trip to Italy, but will try to keep up with your adventure this year. As the Italians say, In bocca al lupo! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

We started a bit late today, as light must be out so we could sight our rifles. Alan has built a shooting bench, for individuals who are at least 9 feet tall! I had to sit on my knees between the seat and the bench to shoot! Not far out of cam we saw an old buffalo bull down in that valley from a hill we were on. He was in long grass, and all we could see was his shape feeding. We stayed with him for a bit and decided to see if I could take a shot. Eventually he did became clear, and I fired at him. Another one ran off with him. . All our hunt was over The first one dropped, and we continued chasing the other one. He went into ver thick grass, visibility was hardly few feet. We found drops of blood. We went in a sort of round and round chase, never going very far. We were trying to be careful. We saw him lying down, but not very clear to shoot. There was a tree close to him, I walked up to it, and finished him off. The tree was 7 steps from him. We took one back to camp, and sent the crew to recover the second. We are calling it a day for today. Both buffalo were down by 9.

Chased zebra, kongoni and warthog. They beat us in very thick bush. Find two dugga boys, and shot one. We were too far from camp to shoot both. Got back late, and had a great buffalo pepper steak.

Saeed, Are you exploring new areas within Mlele this year, or hunting the same ground as last year ? Those are cool pics of the Giraffe. Is this the first time you've seen them here ? Thankyou for posting the pics. It's great being able to follow along. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Usual program we are at breakfast at 5:30, have breakfast and head out by 6:30 Maktoum and Peter have not had so much as we had. This morning we planned to give the buffalo a break, and try for something else. Did not work. Found a herd, and a good old bull in it. Followed them for a while, he ket being in the middle, so hard to get a shot. Eventually they found an almost dry mud hole, and he was in the middle of it. He fell at teh shot exactly where he stood. We had to drag him out by the truck. We called the game department and asked them to come and pick it up. Sadly, they were out of fuel. So we loaded our bull and headed back to camp for lunch.

Yesterday has been a funny day. We actually left camp trying to avoid buffalo, and hunt something else like zebra, kongoni, roan etc. That did not work. Saw a herd with a good bull in it. The wind was right, so we kept close to them as they fed. The bulls remained in the middle, so no chance for a shot. We carried on with them. They got into an open with a drying mud hole in the middle. I got a clear shot at him, and shot him. He dropped right int the mud. We pulled him out, cut him up and took him to camp. Received a message from Maktoum and Pete that they have shot a buffalo, and putting it as bait for a big lion they saw close by. After lunch we went to look for the lion. Met them and they told us he was close to the bait. Went to the bait, and decided it was in the wrong place. Took it off the tree, and dragged it to another location, and decided to wait close by . Not long after, we see the lion walking towards us!! We were behind a big tree, and he could not see us. About 80 yards away he must have sensed someone was there, and as he turned, I fired. He took off, Alan shouting for me to shoot him again, but there was no chance as he was running through the bush. We heard him growl, then stop. The grass was tall, logs, dead trees, and ground visibility was basically nil. Our trackers came, and we tried following him. No blood at all. It took us quite a while to find him. He ran about 75 yards. Getting back to camp, KABOOBI KABOOBI! The camp staff absolutely love it. Had BBQ kebab for dinner, and stayed up quite late for a change.
