It is $130 for one day, and $300 for three days, and you must be an SCI member.

I do not remember what a two-day pass costs.

Just call SCI and inquire.

Since the SCI Convention is a "members only" convention, it should be no surprise that "non members" cannot attend. Duh!! Roll Eyes This is not something new as I recall it has always been that way. At least for the dozen or so years I have been attending.

Too much to attend? I guess that is up to those who choose one way or the other. Some do, some don't, simple enough.

Seems we have been down this road before. SCI is a private organization and the convention is a fundraiser. Attendance is limited to members only.

Larry at that price you have an excuse to leave the Mrs home. Unfortunately any significant other you show up with will still cost that much before the extras. Oh and that dosnt include lawyer fees or alimony. LOL! Big Grin

I find it strange that SCI insists in making you a member before you can enter the show, while DSC doesn't.

What does SCI offer that is not being offered at teh DSC show?

Wouldn't it be more valuable for us as hunters to encourage people to visit teh show, and if they do get interested they can join?

May be this is one of those lopsided idea from the SCI management.

Then no harm no fowl! I still think the spouses or girlfriends should only have to pay a minimal fee. However, there are many gals who are active members and great hunters so we cant discriminate or complicate things I guess. Most years I dont complain about the fees but having been out of work for a year now, well.... I guess I see the other side of things.

Wouldn't it have been more reasonable to have applied a token entry fee to members and an elevated ticket price for non-members ?

SCI had exhibitors in tents in 2011, and the crowds were shoulder to shoulder most of the time.

I don't think they care much about attendance numbers nearly as much as economic status of those who do.

Remember, they are there to raise money and sell expensive toys/hunts for the exhibitors.

Their CLAIMED objective is "FIRST FOR HUNTERS".

Which as many of us have discovered, is far from the truth!

Ditto here.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is across town, at the same time, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. $10.00 to get in. 'Just sayin'.

No matter what the "lifers" say, the SCI show is a TRADE SHOW, exactly like any other trade show in America selling something. Perhaps the hefty charge is an attempt to make us suckers not feel like we're retail customers wandering through a big store, but that is exactly what we are.

I bought two four day passes at DSC for $100.00 on Wednesday. Even though I think the number of visitors were up from last year I didn't hear a lot about bookings. May just be the booths I frequented but they were dissappointed in the lack of checks being written for hunts. Most of those same people will be at Reno so maybe it will be better there.
I am a member of both organizations but I have not been to SCI in 10 years mainly because I can get what I need to get done at DSC without the hassle and expence of going to Reno. DSC is just a 55 minute flight for us and you'd be hard pressed to find an organization that will treat you any better than these folks do.
I saw a lot of young people both Friday and Saturday at the show and,I think, that's what it's all about. Hard not to stop and smile when you see a small child point, with a look of wonder on their face, at something they've never seen before. All the time asking questions. Seems wonderful to me.

Mike - No problem with the wife not coming along as this is a "guys only" event for me. She opts to take a trip with her friends, most likely Costa Rica, Branson, Charleston or the like. She has attended in the past, enjoyed for a day, but then thinks it's kinda boring, so does her own thing during SCI time.

Too damned much. We used to go all the time until we saw the light, went to DSC and became life members. Also, no extortion involved with the exibitors at DSC. Nicer people, snobs are much less prevalent and the exact same exibitors attend (more or less). jorge

DSC is 3 days for $40. If you are a glutton for "punishment" 4 days for $50.

I am not one of those who blindly supports everything about SCI. In fact, there is a lot I do not like.

This matter however is real simple. If one thinks the cost is too high, don't go. They set the price. It is up to the individual to determine if they want to pay the price or not.

Using union labor to set up is not SCI's choice. When in Nevada it's the unions' rule. So really an irrelevant statement. Big Grin

In Africa it would equate to the cost of a good steak with a reasonable bottle of wine. Or the trophy fee on an Impala.

The last time I was in Vegas for the show, I was carrying a box of my own. I am most certainly not an exhibitor and not in the business except as a client. These union pricks tried to take my box. They told me I wasn't allowed to carry my own box, union rules didn't allow it. I told them to go F@$ik themselves. I wasn't in their f'ing union. if they attempted to take my personal property, i was going to file charges against them for stealing my property and assault. I was allowed to carry my personal property. Pricks.

I have no doubt that the union adds to the expense significantly.
