| Didn't that movie make the rounds a couple years ago? It seemed to me a typical 50's hunting movie, where there is a lot of smiling and waving and a few dead critters, and, as I recall, the color was quite faded and the sound poor. Or, maybe I'm confused.

See my post above. The VHS was definately a bootleg from my 16mm print. The guy I sold my print to told me he was going to give it to Harry Selby as a gift. He lied. He was trying to sell bootleg VHS copies. |

| About 2 years ago I bought a VHS tape from the Safari Press booth at the Dallas Safari Club show. It is not titled "African Adventure" - I think it is titled "Safari". It has the same footage and characters and narration by Ruark as the sample on the Turner Classic Movie website. Does anyone know if it is also a bootleg? |

| Rusty, My recollection was that the original was black and white, but it's been a while and I could be wrong.
DrScott, Judging from the above posts, yours is one of the bootleg copies. |

| I posted about this earlier in the "Video and Books" forum earlier, but thought those who don't go over to that forum might like to know that there's a new Ruark biography coming out this fall. Jim Casada is currently editing the work, which was written by Ruark's long-time secretary Alan Ritchie. I just found out about the book today, and I've already been in touch with Dr. Casada to reserve a copy of the limited edition version of the book. You can read a bit more about the book at his website: http://www.jimcasadaoutdoors.com |

| My apologies to AR members. I was in Reno when this thread was started and just read the recent posts. I have the video. Postdriver, please send me a PM as to where you want the video mailed. I MUST have the video returned as it also has our 1996 Zim safari on the same tape.

| I have the Ruark video (VHS) in question, I think. It appears to be filmed off a tv or other medium. Here is what I have. He starts on his flight, lands in Ethiopia then off to Kenya. He meets up with Selby who has a Mau Mau working for him. They take off to the NFD and later they are in camp when Holmberg shows up with his askari saying they found a big elephant track. Ruark heads out it, starts to rain and he kills a 110 pounder (EACH). Then he goes on to rhino and gets delayed when the cops arrest the camp Mau Mau. etc. My wife, the brains of the outfit, put it on a DVD-R for me. Let me know if I can be of service.

| Postdriver,
It is black and white. I bought it from an advertisement in SAFARI magazine. I can't remember the name of the company so I am going to go through some of my old magazines. It is called ON SAFARI Hunting adventure in the golden age of africa with Robert Ruark. There is no copyright mark on it and no indication of who made, sold, or distributed it. Also there is one point in the film where it flickers in color for just a fraction of a second. |

| I too ordered a copy from videoscreams. The delivery is long (I think they quote 4-6 weeks). They actually dupe a copy when your order, I think. Anyway, if they can supply a decent copy for $14, that is probably the best answer. I will let everyone know if I get the copy. |
