This is from Mark Butcher, what he told me, that one of his PH's got this one in December 2013. Last bull of the season, 102 and 100 lbs I think. End of the tusk was infected so a bit is missing but didn't amount to much. Very impressive. I love the color of the tusks. I'm glad he was properly collected so his tusks can be appreciated forever. It would be great to see the photo from the field- an old gentleman indeed! | |||

Speaking of polishing In Missoula Mt in library of Boone & Crockett Club, there is 80 + lbs set and it's been polished white and looks awful. But I guess decades ago it was fashionable to do that. I leave mine the way they come, one set even has a bit of blood still on it and some mud It's been my dream to have one like that all darkly stained Maybe one day, maybe never... Fantastic tusks, but I think the most fantastic thing of all is that there are still elephants of this caliber roaming around out in the bush. Whether they mostly live in parks or just reserves like Botswana was for so long, it is wonderful to know that one might find such a grand old bull if lady luck smiles upon him. | |||

I agree that it is amazing that so many elephants in the 100 pound range are being taken. Just 10 years ago all the experts seemed to be saying that the days of the 100 pounders were gone forever. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown | |||
