Anyone recommed a camelbak model ? Amazon has like hundreds.

Want one for hunting and having it permantley on me with storgae for gps, knife and maybe iphone plus some ammo.

I was thirsty of all places in Alaska and had to share a prized plastic bottle with Biebs. I want my own camelbak going forward.

I have a couple. The 3 liter bladder is going to be mostly universal. The difference in the pack is how big and what it can hold.

Bladder wise I like the Platypus better and have changed out my camelback bladders.

I love camelbacks. You just never drink as much water as you can when that nozzle is right there over your shoulder. Priceless on the Sheep hunt and I will be wearing one on the Ele hunt.

Cheers
Jim

the 1600 mil spec is bit weighty at 1.45kg 1.3kg complete out of the box, but its far from just a hydration pack,
with around 27L cap and very well featured.

take out the bladder system and remove the waste belt and it also serves very well as a lightened urban EDC pack when not hunting.

For ammo? Biebs was suggesting a wheel barrow for our hunt in Luangwa?

Unless I am shooting a hippo like in a Mark Sullivan video, I am leaving my double rifle behind and going to borrow Biebs blaser.

I want to focus on fishing gear for Vundu.

We will need a real big wheel barrow to get my Vundu back to camp.

You're going to use Biebs' Blaser?

Didn't you know that if you fill a cartridge with fast pistol powder and shoot it in a Blaser it will blow up taking of half your face?

Beretta,

I would really look at the Camelbak military models. They are better quality than the civilian models and you can find them easily on EBay.

I have three models-Ambush, MULE and HAWG.

The Ambush is the smallest and is mostly a hydration system with a little cargo space.

The MULE is medium sized and popular if you need a little extra room to carry stuff.

The HAWG is the largest of the three and is approaching the size of a daypack.

There are larger models but really if you need something bigger than the HAWG you are better off with a plain backpack.

I like this one as I wanted something as minimal as possible. Just enough room for a few spare rounds and some other gear.

I live in Arizona where dehydration can be deadly. I have seen too many Camelbacks leak; I will stick with plastic bottles.

I used the Camelback, Military grade, Ambush pack last year in Moz and it was outstanding. The Ambush uses the Military grade bladder and "doesn't leak" and doesn't slosh around like bottles do. Plus the drink tube lets you sip without stopping the hunting party to dig out the water. I usually have a bigger pack or gear bag that stays on the truck, and take this one when heading into the bush. Carries well, stays put, doesn't interfere with shooting, light weight, plenty rugged, comes in coyote tan, black, green and several camo patterns.

I can carry the following in the Ambush;

3 liter bladder of course, small first aid kit, Havalon knife and extra blades, flashlight, headlamp, camera, Gerber tool, quick clot, Ace bandage, 2 - five round packs of ammo, 2 energy bars, TP, chapstick, eyedrops, hard candy, extra pair of eyeglasses, GPS (sometimes), lens pen, rubber gloves, small notebook and pen, and still have a little room if I want to change things up a bit. This pack also has some MOLLE attachment points if you want to add another pouch. A lot of packs end up overweight, too bulky etc. so get left behind. You really don't even know you are carrying this one after a few trips. Good luck.

I use and really like the MULE. It totes your water and has just enough room for a bit of food, spare gear, and a few gadgets. The configuration of the Ambush also looks interesting, but the lack of shoulder strap padding makes it less appealing to me than the MULE, which I recommend.

DR I have a Camelback MULE as well its a great pack also. FWIW the straps on the Ambush don't need to be padded due to the pack design I guess. The lack of padded straps makes for great gun shouldering with minimum change of LOP. I was hesitant also until I tried it on and carried it a bit. You don't even know this thing is with you until you need a drink. Smiler JMTCW.

I like my TAC MULE model, which I find to be a good balance between size and weight.
