Please Post Your Elephant Trophy Photos
To assure I'm communicating my trophy expectations to the PH for my upcoming elephant hunt, I thought I'd take along some photos of what I consider a trophy and what I dont. It is my intention to pull the trigger only on a bull elephant with a minimum tusk weight of 50 pounds each. We will be hunting elephants coming out of Gonerezhou Park in Zimbabwe.

Please post photos of elephants along with their known ivory weights.

This one does not meet your min of 50. If I remember correctly one was 44 and one was 46. Please note it was a small nerve and short but decent thickness.

Still fun.

Here is one that is 46 and 48. Short but very thick with small nerves.

The same elephant is the first and third from the left. The other was only 36 and 39. You can see how thickness makes a difference. Also note how much of the tusks are inside the head.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

This is very interesting. I enjoy the photo's, and also it's nice to know what area the elephants were harvested in.

Definatley gives one some perspective as to how big those Botswana bulls are.

Thanks

You don't have to ask me twice to show photos of my elephant! It was an incredible experience and I took a much better bull than I expected (or deserved).

Zim. '04 57x60 lbs. (Sorry about the poor photo quality)

Forget the trophy size and just enjoy the privilege that is elephant hunting.

I agree with the above post. I've killed one C.I.T.E.S. elephant and several p.a.c. animals. I don't remember the enjoyment was any less just because I couldn't bring the tusks home (or they weren't very big).

If you haven't done it, GO!

I'm scheduled for my fourth p.a.c. trip to Omay in March. Including airfare, it will cost less than $10K. Anyone want to join me in camp?

This was a very good bull taken on the Angolan/Namibian boarder at Opuwa. Kobus Honiball of African Thirstland Safaris and crew did a great job for me. The ivory is realtively short but very heavy for size. The tusks went right around 54 each and were very evenly matched. Look at the difference in size between these tusks and the 65 lbers above. Not much difference in weight but look how much thinner and longer the Tanzanian tusks are compared to these.

This thread motivated me to scan a very old photo of the first elephant I took back at Deka with Roy Vincent. I think this might have been before Saeed ever met him, it was that long ago. Sorry for the poor photo quality, but it is a print from a kodachrome slide, which has then been scanned.

This bull went 58x54 pounds, and I could have cared less about the ivory after it was all done. That had to be one of the most exciting and harrowing hunts I'll ever enjoy in my lifetime. We were both a lot younger back then.
