Have you bought a Havalon knife to get ready for the Thanksgiving Turkey? That was too funny when Joyce pointed it out.

That shows you how little attention I show to the hunting shows. I have never even heard of a Havalon knife.

I tuned em out long ago.

My ONLY reasons are how they drag 4 minutes of show into 30 minutes. The rejoinder playbacks drive me frickin nuts also.

I hear ya. It was "Unchartered" and the Knowltons were sitting around the family table at the end of the show, said grace, and then Corey's wife pulled out a Havalon to cut the bird.

I missed it Joyce caught it so I played it back. Too funny!!

Why I much rather watch Saeed, Larry Shores, The Judge and other AR members hunt videos.

I should DVR some of the hunting shows but I really have not done so in over 2 years.

I really am getting stale in my hunting celebrities too - I have no idea who Knowltons is.

Statements like that are unlikely to impress sponsors or potential viewers.

But apparently you're not too worried about that.

Not a great way to increase viewership.

And I watch most every show you produce but that was an extremely ill-conceived post.

I loathe practically every whitetail hunting show on TV.
Most are absolute drivel and mostly product promotion and kill shots.
Bone Collectors and Waddell particularly are some of the most annoying.
They're are many others, but hate the "This is the mackdaddy of _________"
It's hard to believe that some of them have ever hunted in the real world.
Often reminding me of Elmer Fudd and his "cue the rabbit" phrase from his hunting show.

With that said, I watch a few shows about Africa and some others.
My wife likes to watch Shockey, Fred Eichler, Tracks, and Under wild skies.
Kind of funny to come home and your wife is watching a hunting show.
Those are pretty much the shows I stomach.

There's also one goofy guy she watches because he actually does teaching segments
and isn't just kill shots. The blaring music, though, drives me away. forget his name.

I can appreciate Dave's frustration. You work hard to produce a quality product, you spend considerable time traveling and away from your family to do so, you deal with all the hassle associated with finding, recruiting and maintaining sponsors, you film hours of footage for each few minutes that actually end up on the air and the response you get is I think the font for the credits is too small, the music needs to be a different genre, the shot scene that was filmed in 1.6 seconds was out of focus, there are too many commercials, etc. Sure it is his choice to do this work and no one is holding a gun to his head to force him to do it, many others would love to be in the position to do it too and get paid and the like. That said, to work hard to put out a quality product and have folks nit pick it has got to be frustrating. As I said before, I will take the show with whatever modest imperfections there may be and enjoy it . . . and give thanks that I am not relegated to having to watch Pig Man, Chris Dorsey, Michael Waddell, or ad nauseam bow hunting shows for my outdoor television fix. Let Dave vent a little, he deserves the right.

I've said this before, and I know it doesn't matter to most but I for the life of me can't understand how anyone could watch a hunting show. The reason they are so criticized is because hunting isn't a spectator sport IMO. It's just like all the reality shows, 90% staged talking and 10% or less reality. I know I'm in the minority because most hunters I know watch them religiously.

What got me was you calling us " pimps. " I have never heard that term used in a nice or professional way. I have zero problem "stepping up" as you suggested I do concerning our sponsors. Going into our 10th year, my major sponsors are the EXACT same ones we started with. And they were sponsors WE approached. I am a Life Member of DSC, have used nothing ( with the exception of my double gun ) other than my three Ruger rifles in both my personal and filmed hunts, shoot Hornady ammo on everything from Whitetails to bull elephant and have enjoyed great success with every Trijicon scope I have. Could I use another product with good effect, of course, but I \ we are proud of our sponsors both as business partners and producers of quality gear we count on. The same goes for all our sponsors. Safari Classics has had to say Thank You, but your product just does not fit with our series, MANY times with companies that approached us with gear that either did not fit our needs, or more often, gear we felt we could not endorse with a clear conscience. A PIMP outfit would have said " Show me the money and tell me what to say when the camera is on." Financially, we would be FAR BETTER OFF if we did so... but we at SCP do not. Perhaps you now see why the pimp comment was so offensive. We try our best to produce shows folks like. Sometimes we do just that, sometimes not. I get that. I am a " let the market tell you how to proceed" type of guy. I am proud of the job my team does, know the sacrifices we make to do what we do, and feel morally good about every dollar we earn in the process. Folks are entitled to their opinion, I am the first to agree with that as I am an opinionated guy. If you see me as smaller for trying to defend a very unfair comment, well I am sorry you see it that way.I agree that when you put your goods up for public display they are open to comment, no issue at all. Same when a guy takes your wife out to eat. You may overhear a fella say, under his breath " That woman sure wears her dresses tight" You would probably let that go. But hear the same guy say " She looks like a whore and he is probably her pimp" well, that will usually get a much different response. Hope the analogy is a good one. That it for me. Enjoy the show if you feel inclined, change the channel to something else if not is a deal I can easily live with.

Dave,
I like the majority of your shows; most of the time.

I always have the option of changing the channel when I don't.

I think some of the posters here should consider the same logic.

Keep up the good work.

I like the shows. For the most part, I have no problem with advertising. The decals on the guns are annoying to me.

I just got back from Denver . I looked at my DVR. There were a lot more shows than there were when I left. There were as many as 5 episodes of individual shows. For example, let's use "Uncharted." The description of all 5 shows said "Uncharted." I had to go to each show to determine if they were repeats. I spent 20-30 minutes doing this as I record so many shows. It is annoying and I do not have the time. There are 2 problems as follows:

1- Lack of proper labeling.
2- The DVR setting to record only new episodes does not work on the Outdoor Channel.

I understand that this is not the producers issue. My question to the producers is who would we contact at the Outdoor Channel to tell them about this issue.

How come none of these shows are HD? NBC/Versus was HD and the difference was pretty stunning.

I agree about the decals; I don't mind the logos on shirts and hats, but they are over the top on rifle stocks.

Let me ask you another honest question, Dave... Step up here... I'm not defending ISS here. He's a big boy and we've had our spats as well but I highly doubt you talked like this too his face when he was sitting in your booth when you were having the problem with him, why not bring up these issues when he was there in front of you? Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Todd

Let's turn that around...ISS has personally threatened several AR members via PMs that he would "squash them like a bug." Do you think he would do that in person? The guy still thinks he is a bad ass because he is a Vietnam vet. I know a WWII Battle of the Bulge vet but he can barely walk today. Perhaps the biggest laugh of all: Boddington kept the "product pimping at bay while hosting TAA."

Dave's comments throughout this thread are spot on. As for sponsors, it is obvious on TV who the sponsors are; print media, not so obvious. Some guys get paid for using "Brand X" barrels but they sure don't acknowledge that in print. You can say the same for internet comments; does personality "X" on AR recommend a hunt or product because they got free stuff? Who knows?

Pretty obvious who the sponsors are on TV, and that is a good thing.

A pimp, by dictionary, is just a person who provides other people's services for a percentage.

It has only in the past sixty years that the word has come to have primarily a sexual connotation.

I believe it has recently become apparent that there was a very special relationship between Craig Boddington and the crew that produced TAA.

I spent my time in RVN on MAC-V Advisory Teams initially, and then the Rangers. A six man team has to have all six function as one. The company would shuffle, as needed, people around until a group "clicked".

You operate as a six-legged octopus, either at top efficiency, because you either live together, or you die together. The best groups at anything try to achieve that cohesion.

We just aren't seeing that anywhere else these days.

Dave,

For what it's worth, I enjoy the shows. You put out a product that gives me a little entertainment every week. I've hunted with Chifuti and enjoyed it, Doug King is now my cameraman of choice, and I support your sponsors not just because they choose to support the product you're putting out, but because they make quality products that work for me. And I like to give back to the companies that support the programming that keeps me entertained in between hunts.

Keep up the good work.
