I am posting this to confirm whether or not USF&G (THE FEDS) are still banning or seizing legally hunted lion trophies that hunters try to have shipped home. Can someone give me this info? MMP

They are allowing them if they are pre-ban Jan 2016. They will check permits and hunt dates and a notarized affidavit needs to be signed.

They have issued at minimum ten (10) permits for lions shot in South Africa that originated from "Wild" and "Managed Wild" populations in 2016, post-ban. No captive bred lion import permits were issued nor will be issued by USFWS. The definitions of these classifications can be found on their website.

I spoke with USFWS agents at SCI for a good amount of time and they will be doing country by country findings this year. South Africa was on top of things and got them all requested information and paperwork in short order, which is shocking considering that countries current leopard issue. The USFWS agents at SCI seemed to think Tanzania was going to be the next country looked at, followed by the southern African countries currently open to lion hunting one at a time. It will be months before they have all of their data together, but it's good to see that they have at least issued a handful of permits for the one country they've looked at. I suspect some of the countries currently open to lion hunting in southern Africa will not be issued import permits, while a few others will.

What we have gathered is USF&W has set conditions that want to prove sustainability and accounted incomes for attached communities.

In Zambia we have accounted for these stipulated conditions. Whether USF&W acknowledges this is a different matter.

Let me give you an example:

Royal Kafue took on depleted and denude country and invested heavily in rejuvenating and resuscitating communal lands. We created a business environment with our partners and paid hefty profits to our landlords. The adjacent property is on sale for $12,000,000 and we can now boast half of that value.

USF&W seems to ignore the very stipulations that they have enforced in Africa. They ignore the recovery of wild Africa by us hunters which is something not achieved by others.

The American hunter has been and currently is responsible for the protection of Africa as we know it.

Does anyone have a feel for how long it will be for the "Trump Influence" to be felt at USF&W??

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Is the US Fish & Wildlife Service Acting Responsibly?
Written By John J. Jackson III, Conservation Force Chairman & President
(posted May 2017)

The African lion was listed on the ESA in December 2015 - effective in January 2016. Other than about 10 wild and wild managed lion a year from South Africa approved last October, 2016, the FWS has not granted or denied any import permit from the threatened listed populations. It is not acting on any import permit applications though supported by reams of information. Conservation Force has filed 16 applications for Zimbabwe, including six for Bubye Valley Conservancy since January 2016. The FWS has neither denied or approved the applications. The following two articles shed light on the growing problems. We wait and we wait some more. - John J. Jackson, III

Fire half of them and then the other half
There is very few wild buffalo in US in comparison to number of African lions
We still get to hunt them ( buffs )
USFW is sad state of affairs that butts into other peoples business where they shouldn't be...
