Tough lady, good news and come see us!

Thanks Ernest,

We will someday visit. It's in our nature (just ask Darin Nelson). Jerry Dollar will be in your State soon so we have two reasons to head that way on a later road trip.

Please tell Emmy I would love an update on how school is going. We so much enjoyed talking with her during your visit.

You both have our numbers

Cheers
Jim

We loved having you visit! We didn't want you to leave...that says something about the kind of guests you are! Your visit cured some of what ails us, maybe we had something to do with Joyce's good news! jumping

You are always welcome here!

Hugs, Darin

Only problem is that they brought along a javelina to celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary:

The news remains good. The three year PET Scan done yesterday is also negative.

I started this thread a little over five years ago. Joyce and I made a decision then to go totally public with her diagnosis for a couple reasons but the main one was always the fact that people generally have trouble knowing how to "act" around someone with a potentially life threatening diagnosis. We wanted everyone to know it didn't change how we looked at life at all.

A lot of you have become friends over those years and gave Joyce much support in her battle against cancer. Even those of you we haven't had the pleasure of meeting in person, treated us like friends you've known and cared about.

Joyce just had her five year, and last scheduled, surveillance Pet Scan a little over a week ago. I had planned on resurrecting this old thread to announce the results of that test and to give a final thank you for all of your well wishes and support.

Her scan came back with a positive finding of an enlarged Lymph node in her left groin with an increased uptake of the radioisotope. This was worrisome considering her history so a needle biopsy was done.

It's rare to have a recurrence of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma this far out after a seemingly successful treatment.

The pathology report came back positive for a Follicular Lymphoma without suggestion of a Large B-cell reoccurrence.

The plan at this point is to have the lymph node removed for an even better pathology evaluation since needle biopsies can be inaccurate. There's no doubt she has Follicular Lymphoma but the hope is with the better pathology sample we can be sure the Large B-cell has not returned. That would be bad news if true.

The Follicular Lymphoma is a totally different very slow growing type of cancer, though not curable, it is generally considered "manageable" with life expectancies into the decades.

Sorry I couldn't come on here and say it's an all clear but we are simply treating this like another adventure.

So hug those you love, tell them how much they mean to you, and cherish every single day. Waste none of them.

BTW, Joyce is still a 65 year old badass.....

I hope that the further tests are encouraging and that the future for the two of you is the best it can be.

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Best of luck with this one too.

Thing is, lymph nodes are infection
filters first. IF the cancer hasn't
spread out of that area, they should
get it by taking a batch of nodes out.

I had several filled up, no cancer though.
Both sides of crotch and R underarm, one off
L forearm all one trip back in '78.

A week to heal from the carving, then the wait
for the report is the hard part.

Hang in there Joyce, best wishes.

Jim & Joyce,

With the determination and strength you both exhibit, the cancer doesn’t stand a chance. You beat the first attack. The second one will be the same.

Come back and visit us again on your next trip to the lower 48.
