Joyce developed some low back pain in July. She’s an avid Crossfitter so we just attributed the pain to muscle strain. Two weeks later after landing a large Halibut the pain increased. I finally got the hardhead to come in for an Xray two weeks later. She had a compression fracture of her 4th lumbar vertebrae with an very suspicious appearance. Loads of testing later everything was negative. Then in October the pain became intractable and a repeat MRI showed her vertebrae to be all but gone.

She underwent stabilization surgery on 11/04/13, fusing L-5 to L-3 with hardware. Finally a good pathology sample revealed the cause as Large B-Cell Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She is presently having her first round of chemo as you read this. It will be 6 cycles given 21 days apart.

I’m mentioning this here for two reasons. There are some AR friends that already know this information and I recently got a PM asking me where I was hunting Leopard and with whom. I thought it better just to make a general announcement so to speak.

We certainly will not refuse kind thoughts and prayers but we are NOT seeking anything else.

I just wanted to let folks know that if I were looking for a good Leopard hunt with a beyond excellent chance of a daylight Leopard I would be contacting Greg Brownlee before the conventions. We were slated to hunt with Derek Littleton of Luwire and I did my due diligent research.

I had my first chemo round on Tuesday. Of course they gave the Rituxin very slowly but all went well and I tolerated it just fine. I just kept thinking, "Die you Bitch Cancer Zombie Bastard Cells" while visualizing an arcade where I got to shoot them as they came by with an AR on full auto and I NEVER ran out of ammo. It did make the day go rather pleasantly! By the way cancer cells are yellow and knobby. Don't ask me why that's just how they appeared in the arcade!

There is another member of ours in AR who wishes to remain anonymous...over the last two years has gone through the full Chemo, bone marrow transplant and recovery...with a CANCER FREE celebration last August...he is doing fine now with only one minor rejection relapse of recent...

Another great friend in Anchorage, an Orthodontist and great pilot and hunter.....same thing...lots of time at Fred Hutch in Seattle and bone marrow transplant from twin brother.....he is doing fine as well...hunted goats this Spring with his daughter....

Doing well!!

Some slight nausea and tiredness for about 4-5 days with the first round of Chemo. Her anemia from the back surgery has resolved so her energy is back. She's working out daily within the restrictions placed on her by the surgery. Appointment this Tuesday with the Orthopod and hopefully Xray's will show good healing and perhaps she can get out of the clamshell brace.

Next chemo round is scheduled for 12/23/13 ---- Merry Christmas.

Extreme night sweats have subsided so perhaps that means, as she puts it, the Chemo is killing those Bitch Cancer Zombie Bastard cells.

She is a little concerned about the "styling" of the wig the cancer society gave her. She thinks it makes her look like Cousin It from the Adams Family

the extreme night sweats were the only symptom i had when i was diagnosed. and they did indeed subside fairly quickly- so considering what i was told initially and where i am now- IT IS INDEED A GOOD SIGN!! hang in there and things will get better( although the hair loss was a major nuisance in winter )
