Good post. Can I also make a request on behalf of Mike Jines for anyone to suggest a " good looking" female PH as he often complains that Buzz Charlton is a terrible kisser.

"...The law of Tanzania requires a minimum of a cal. 240 rifle for smaller game and .375 or larger for dangerous game. I insist on clients using larger calibre on big-bodied game like Eland..." The above is taken from Natasha's website linked above. You can insist all you want, I sure will not be hunting with you with this attitude! How much nicer if she said "I recommend" instead of "I insist". I shot a number of eland with 270 caliber rifles. I have no idea why they died! Sometimes it make laugh at what those PH write. I was in Sweden last year, and went with some friends to a shoot. They had animal targets - bears, wolves, moose etc. They had a target super-imposed on the chest of the animal for scoring. If one hits the animal in the neck or head, he gets zero.

Looks like Londonhunter does not fancy the idea of his wife and daughters being in the vicinity of the likes of you. Mind you, I would probably be more than a little concerned myself??

I did a 3 week safari with Natasha in TZ. (I had hunted many times with a PH who retired and I was forced to change PH's. My hunting friend wanted to use Natasha and I relented.) Natasha is extremely competent. She is extremely fit and walked are arses off. Franklly, she seemed as knowledgeable as any male PH. She did not like 375's for DG. For her part, she carried a 458 Lott (I was surprised in that she always carried it herself. Correcting for body weight it would be like me carrying a .700). As we had not hunted with her before, she insisted that we demonstrate out shooting competence before we hunted---even though we had both been to Africa many times. I confess that I was a bit put off by this and insisted that she demonstrate her competence as well. She shot the Lott very well. If one wants to use a female PH, I have no reservation about recommending Natasha. Having said that, I don't think it is at all necessary to use a female PH with young female hunters. I've never hunted with a male PH who I feel would not bend over backwards to make their experience a good one.

I suppose some PH try to make up for their own short comings! She sounds like a real weirdo to me.

I was wondering how long it would take you to volunteer to to that. "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. She affects some people that way, and those who feel as I do need no explanation." from The Last Safari

You do realise that you would have to shave before you shovelled on the make-up. Also, you would have to stick with a "BB," otherwise the damn things would get in the way of the rifle.

Saeed, If I portrayed Natasha as being a weirdo, I apologize. I do not envy PH's. Their profession is full of difficulties and I don't blame anyone for having sense enough not to do it. I think that female PH's have the deck stacked against them. For example, Natasha is quite attractive. When my wife saw who I was going to be hunting with, she went ballistic (never minding the fact that what would an attractive young woman want with an old fart like me!) This is something male PH's don't have to be concerned with. At some point, male PH's no longer have to prove themselves. Females don't have that luxury. My hunt with Natasha was two consecutive 10-day, 2 buffalo hunts (4 buffalo/20 days). I came away very impressed with her ability. She held her own very well. As for myself, I found that I am more comfortable with male PH's. I found myself watching my language and not being able to scratch where it itches. This was my shortcoming, not hers. For whatever reason, if someone wants a female PH, Natasha is very competent.

It is not about what kind of job a male PH would do. My wife is a psychologist and I am a professional educator. We would both highly recommend a female role model (PH,instructor, etc.) for young novice females in almost any situation new to them. The young gals will not feel as intimidated as they would by a "hairy chested" male. I would recommend the same thing to young ladies taking up snow skiing or mountain climbing. A big Bravo Zulu to dad for wanting to ensure that the ladies learn from their first time out in as comfortable environment as possible! Ps. BZ is Navy speak for "good job!" H. John, You did not portray her as a weirdo. I got that impression from her own opinions on what her clients should use to hunt with. I have absolutely no wish to hunt with a female PH. As far as I am concerned females in a hunting camp should camp managers

I suggest anyone interested in the lady should read this article from the Times. She's a most interesting woman, to say the least! And, has anyone read her book, Tea on a Blue Sofa? I found one for a few bucks on Amazon and just ordered it. Supposedly, it is about a murdered (but unnamed) boyfriend??? Wow! Shades of the Happy Valley scandals.

Is your implication that she had something to do with his murder.....and that should somehow color one's decision to hire her as a PH?

Norton, Read the link the Judge posted... he is not implicating anything or anyone. Ernest, Thanks for the link. A very interesting read. bwanamrm.....I read it prior to posting. I'm guessing from your post that Ernest is not so inclined as to imply what I alluded to. Forgive my imprudence, I suppose I got caught up in the "soap opera" ambiance in the ABGH forum of late.

As you probably know my wife Joyce hunted with Andrew last June. If you would like her to give your wife and daughter a chat about the experience via email or Skype send me a PM. Joyce felt Andrew was very patient and supportive. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

I doubt you meant what you wrote as a PH with Xxy sex chromosomes would be dealing with some very difficult issues associated with having extra sex chromosomes! XXY is known as Klinefelters syndrome and results in a mix of physical characteristics (e.g. they have indications of the sex organs of both male and female)! Just being a technical bastard and adding a little science to the mix!! I hunt to live and live to hunt!

Judge G, I contacted Natasha Berg a couple of years ago about a hunt with her. She was very professional and very informative about the area she hunts and how she likes to conduct hunts. The hunt did not happen, but I would entertain a hunt with her if the stars align right. I have read Tea on a Blue Sofa. I thought it an insteresting read, I think you would like it.

I'm looking forward to getting the book! I could care less if a competent P.H. is a woman or a man, but as with everyone with whom I do business with lots of time spent together, I would hope to have a relationship with them that was not of just performance, but enjoying their personality, stories, dinners, etc. I've found that I relate better to men my age than any other group. We grew up in the same world, fought some bitter wars, had parents who went through The Great Depression and WWII. We remember who used to be the good guys and bad guys, listened to the same music and lusted after the same movie stars. We fart a lot, ache in the same spots, don't perform quite as well as we used to in others. We have a pretty similar bucket list. We generally don't get upset about much and if an animal gets away without a shot, we are just glad that we'll see another sunset. But for a daughter.... it's a bit different, I think. A male or female P.H. could have a very large influence on a young lady. I'd choose very carefully (and have). Remember, even grown men who post here seem to get a "god" version of their P.H. in their mind. They are exciting folks who do exciting things. If a son or daughter is half as impressionable as some of the folks here, I'd want my daughter's "god" to be a person whom my child could emulate. I've had the opportunity (twice) to take a daughter to Africa. I chose her P.H.s, first for safety, then competence as a hunter, then character and personality last. I put about the same value on the first three and a bit less on the last. I would think that Ms. Berg's writings (and writings about her) might give a person a clue (and only that) as to what to expect about the latter attributes other than field performance. Finally, I would hope that any father would do the same as I did, regardless of the sex of the P.H. JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Judge, I relate better to women. They small nice, usually don't chew terbaccer, dont break wind as often in polite company, and have less of a tendency to remove your noggin if you make a mistake. On second thoughts, I take the last comment back. If they are anything like my wife they are MORE likely to tell u what u did wrong. Actually, cancel the entire post, I was wrong, I will put up with the odoriferous, foul-mouthed male PHs long as they dont follow their female counterparts in criticizing what, how, and why I do what I do

This is an absolutely brilliant idea. I've been trying to get my lovely wife to accompany me on a hunt for years. She's thought about it; mentioned it might be interesting, etc., but so far no luck. Engaging a lovely woman as my PH might push her over the edge to go. Probably not as she is intelligent enough to realize that an attractive woman, who is confident and competent enough to be a PH would have absolutely no interest in the likes of me. But, I can fantacize about both concepts can't I?
