Brass Fowling?
I have had a hard time finding the proper solvent to remove the BRASS fowling produced in the bore following the firing of Hornadays now defunct Interbond .458s and .416s. I hope that this is the right place to ask such an unusal question. Thanks, Dr.C

I've found KG 12 Big Bore Cleaner to be an excellent product. It is water based with no ammonia and gets all types of copper and gilding metal fouling out of the bore without the use of brushes (I just use patches). In my opinion, it works better and faster than Shooter's Choice and Barnes CR-10 bore cleaners.

How does one determine it's brass and not copper? Doesn't most copper remover's also work on brass?

thanks for the responses. I have not used the Wipe Out type products. This brass fowling is like gold paint in the bore, and damn resistant to Sweets, Shooters Choice, etc. Dr.C

I've tried all over many years, for me Montana Extreme50BMG copper remover is the most agressive followed by Sweets 7.62, in your case I would say give it a good cleaning with JB bore paste, since Sweets hasn't removed it.

doc,

In my experience Wipe Out removes all types of bullet fouling. Fill the bore and let set over night then wipe clean next day. If that has not removed everything repeat the process. Use J&B as a last resort.
