I'm looking to take a trip to Namibia in the next few years. I'm looking for an authentic free range hunt with opportunities for a big kudu and gemsbok. I would also like to take a Hartmann's zebra.

Any recommendations? Westfalen seems to get good reviews on here.

Big is relative, but you'll have a great hunt with Westfalen and shoot mature animals. Their hospitality is second to none and the hunting is fantastic.

Lots of 52-53" kudu and 38-40" oryx taken by our clients hunting there each year.

I second Westfalen. Very good people to hunt with. They will take good care of you and provide a top notch hunt. The food is outstanding. My mom took a photo of every meal, they were that good.

I shot a 37" gemsbok, and 52" old kudu with them plus a toad of a hartebeest (and dik dik, steenbock, etc.). I saw 3-4 gemsbok bulls that were pushing 40". My dad did just as well.

The zebra were a surprise. My wife worked hard for 4 days to get her stallion. Really fun and under appreciated animal. There are a lot of them, but they are not easy to get. And the mountain zebra is incredible table fare.

Tex, that is a good line up you have on your list.

Their are many good places to go with in Namibia, however to assist you a little better what is your trophy choices and number of days you are looking at going for.

As for record book trophy's, take a look in the record books to see what locations come up. You will see a few that should fit your requirements.

Kudu is probably my number one priority. I would want to at least have a chance at a mature animal in the 52 to 54 range. For gemsbok, I would hope for something in the 37-40 range.

Secondary animals I would be interested in would be springbok, hartebeest and warthog. I really would probably only shoot these if we came across a good animal. My priority is the kudu, gemsbok, and zebra.

I can highly recommend Sebra Hunting Safaris, run by Jan du Plessis, near Kamanjab, Namibia. I hunted with Jan in 2012, 2013 and July 2015. Here's this year's gemsbok:

Johann and Vera Veldsman runs an exellent operation out of their magic lodge/home at Tualuka.

No fences, lots of game and very diverse landscape with granite hills, walleys and old floodplains along the mostly dry Huab river running trough the property.

Rabies has knocked around the kudu population this year once again in Namibia, which makes things a bit more difficult as there just isn't anywhere near the number of bulls out there.

Most outfits should be able to get you an Oryx in the 38"-40" class these days.

.
We have been hunting in Namibia every year for the past 10 years plus. It is simply a great country for hunting!

I would certainly agree on Kowas (Danie Strauss and family) and Keerweder (Bennie Beukes and family). Bennie also has some great eland.

Khomas / Philip Henning is also worth looking at especially for Kudu. Very mountainous property with no high fences at all. Plus mountain Zebra as well.

Cheers

Charlie

Can't recommend Kowas highly enough. Great hunting and great people. IMO, there's no need/reason to pay sliding scale trophy fees.
