OMG. I just made the same comment to my wife. I hate living on the tundra. Been here for 22+ years and can't get used to it. Going out to blow the drive way out for the 4th time. Have 4ft or better drifts. Thankfully I have some fine bourban and a warm fireplace.

Raining and 49 degrees here in music city. Forecast is for 2 inches of snow in the morning. My hunting buds are in Arkansas, spanking mallards in the timber. I'm stuck here dealing with life...it blows. I wanna be in a pit watching ducks circle ever tighter....nah, Africa right now would be grand!
Merry Christmas,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Anton - You just had to do it, didn't you? You just had to post that gorgeous pic of that buffalo herd and make me want to cry because I'm not there right now!

I just flew back from Bozeman to Salt Lake today. I heard that Minneapolis had a blizzard last night (14 inches between midnight and 10 am) with scads of flights into there cancelled today. I bet all you Minnesota guys are getting cabin fever about now. Better light up a fire, pour some single malt, and break out your Africa photo albums or crack open a Wilbur Smith book or pop in a Boddington video. We're all looking down the barrel of more than 3 more months of the white stuff.

Oh well, at least I have some ducks to shoot and mountains to ski in here. But it still doesn't compare to Africa!

Everyone is quick to say how much they hate California and while it's not as much fun as being in Africa, I'll be going to shoot clays with my son tomorrow overlooking the ocean and it will be sunny and 73 degrees. My son hasn't found the need to wear long pants for many years (unless we're hiking in the brush).

Practiced shooting the last two days in sunny 70's weather, but looking at the forecast it might dip into the 60's next week.

Snow is pretty neat, but I'd rather visit it.

I'm only 45 minutes south of Butch, and its still bad here. Plows are off the road, whiteout, etc. Heck, they even postponed the NFL game for tomorrow.

Next year right now I will be chasing buff and lion in Tanz, and laughing at him, but right now, all I have to look forward to is shoveling a 5 foot drift in the driveway, like him....

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Brad , thanks for that one I nearly dropped all the early morning coffe all over the laptop

THis is actually the most amzing time in the bush, all is green, all the impalas had dropped their lambs, the wildebeest have started too as well, the eland has 9 calves already, man it is bloody beautifull, now just too keep those pesky coyotes and other predator numbers down a bit, andnext seasons meat has a chance of growing up

I saw this coming a long way back. California took no steps at all to regulate Cape Buffalo hunting in the San Bernardino Mountains. Now there's not a buff to be found. Fish and Wildlife turned their heads the same way to the over hunting of Kudu here in Maine. Their excuse, the Kudu were competeing for browse with the moose and the moose were more important due to the fact our largest lake is named "Moosehead". You think I can find a kudu around Maine anymore nosireee.

The snow is coming down as we speak here in Nothern Maine and the wind is blowing thirty miles an hour. As you can all see I'm already going over the edge with a case of dilusional cabin fever.
