Can't see the ends so can't be 110% positive but it looks like a mopane leaf (with insect eggs) to me?

Useful tree, the mopane.

I found this passage on someone's "Blog"

The mopane worms have started. First the leaves turned green after the rain, and the heat cranked up a notch again adding humidity to the mix. Then somebody laid little tiny white eggs on the undersides of the leaves. Stacked together in rows they are apparently very sugary, and baboons and monkeys snack on them as sweet treats.
Obviously not enough though because suddenly the trees are dripping with mopane worms as all the little eggs are hatching.

The web address for the whole blog is:

The Baboons are right!! Those Mopane "larvae" are very tasty!! Thanks for letting me know what I'm eating. Big Grin

Guess my Mom was right when she said I'd eat anything. Always thought I had a tapeworm.

The "approach" worked to our advantage. There was a screw up with a desert tour of the Namib and the booking person felt bad so they upgraded us to a "villa" at the Stiltz for our last night versus the room we had paid for.

Enjoy!!

We stayed in the Villa for 5 nights last summer after a 10 day hunt with Han's Hunts in the Khomashochland Mountains.

We were with two other couples, and to be honest, this was one of the highlights of the trip.

The women absolutely loved the place. We guys, loved the deck where we smoked a cigar each night to just celebrate the fact that we were in Africa. Oh, and the little bottles of Amarula were pretty good as well.

We had our 6 month old baby with us, and the heated beds were incredible.

Only issue we had there was...
The Fireplace, they had us burn the fire logs soaked in petroleum rather than real wood.

We look back on our pictures and envy you being there right now.

Enjoy! The food and everything was great!!!
We can't wait to return and your video has really solidified that fact...

Jim,

Big congrats! Malan does a great job. I'm very glad you got the Hartemann's as it is unique to Namibia and a Cheetah???? Wow! Hopefully at some point they'll be importable. Good on the kudu and warthog also.

You might like to know that I just had a client leave the Luangwa where you'll be in a few days who shot a 42" hardheaded buffalo plus other trophies. he reported seeing loads of game of all varieties.

How is Joyce liking the whole expereince?

Malan does do a fantastic job. Blue Wildebeest added to the salt shed tonight.

Joyce is having a great time. She's riding in the back and has bonded with the trackers.

Honestly Malan has the best game eyes of anyone I have ever met. He see's game two ridges away that I have trouble finding with binoculars.

You should definitely hype this set up for plains game hunters. It doesn't get better than this.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Jim
man, i remember those cabanas in the first class departure lounge in Heathrow last year. i arrived in London at 6 AM, took a shower and changed clothes in the arrival lounge, then took the tube to downtown London for a day of sightseeing( i had a 14 hour layover). tube back to Heathrow, 2 hour nap in a cabana, then a great dinner in the first class departure lounge restaurant. back on the plane, couple of drinks and a movie and 8 hours sleep till Joberg. you can't beat BA first class service- at least when the ticket cost $75 service charge and freq. flier miles!! i have gotten to where i enjoy the trip/first class service almost as much as the the hunt- since it is almost free. then again, i don't take a gun anymore. here's hoping you whacked 'em in Zambia!!

Darin,

I spoke to Lauara Du Plooy yesterday. Jim and Joyce are chilling in camp with their trophies in the salt. I'll let Jim elaborate once he returns.

jdollar,

You couldn't be more right. After we had flown BA business and first a couple of times on our mileage Sadie informed me that she would not be returning to Africa unless we could fly business or first everytime. So with the exception of a trip to Cameroon and one to Tanzania we have flown BA business or first each time. We use our cards for literally everything to earn that mileage and it's well worth it. There certainly is something to be said for arriving in Africa relaxed and well rested. It just sets the tone for the trip.

Chilling in Jo-Berg British Air lounge sipping Champagne. Detailed hunt report to follow (actually two hunt reports counting Namibia & Zambia).

Mark was right though. Did a 7 day Buff hunt with Johnny du Plooy where you are allowed 7 animals total and I had 9 in the salt by the end of day three. I'll explain later.

Body count.......

Buff, Croc, Puku, Impala, Bushbuck, Cookson's Wildebeest, Hyena, and Hippo x 2.

Like I said.....I'll explain later.

The other amazing thing was a 21 day cat hunter came to camp on our day 4. He got his Leopard on our day 7, and his Lion on the morning of our charter day out.

Pretty cool to see the critters and the celebration.
