Have you hunted both cape and water buff.

I have funds for one hunt. I can hunt one or two capebuff,or for half the money go to Oz and shoot a throphy bull and a bunch of cows and pigs for 1/2 the money. I would have enough funds for a bear or upland hunt or two. What are your thoughts , based on your experience hunting both.

Having hunted several of each, go hunting cape buffalo while you have the chance, the money, and the health. You will see Africa and African game.

The hunts in Oz are cheaper, and hunting style is similiar for the Asian swamp water-buffalo, but other than wild hogs, kangaroos, dingoes, and salt-water crocs, there isn't much large wildlife. Carmor Plains station has permits for trapping problem crocs.

The hunts in Argentina for the river water-buffalo are cheaper still, as is the airfare. The large wildlife there is rheas, wild hogs, capybara, and occasional puma, javelina, and brocket deer, with red stag and other introduced deer species on the ranches in some areas.

I've hunted both. The Water Buffalo in the beautiful jungle of the Philippines. A great hunt but, I'm agree wiht 450N°2, go to africa and kill a cape buffalo and eventually a cow elephant. Absolutely more exciting and interesting. Keep the Water Buffalo for the next time.

I have been to Namibia , it looked like New Mexico. It was a great time and we took 14 big animals, but did not see any of the big five.
It would be great to see wild Africa.
Thats the draw to Africa.

My dream hunt would be a cape buff and cow Elephant.

It would wipe out the savings at a time when it would be hard to replenish. It will be my last big money hunt, so I want to get it right. I said the same thing with my plains game hunt and feel lucky I may be able to put this together.

Lets say I go to Africa on a 10 day hunt, I bag my the two heads by day 5. What do we do with the rest of the days when you are out of trophy fees?

I know the quality of the camps in Africa, how does Oz compare.

How similar is the hunt it self, Is there a difference when you walk into a herd of cape buff or water buff.

Take a look at Brooklands Safaris in Zimbabwe.

There concession in the SAVE Valley Conservency
is a perfect place for a cape buff and cow elephant hunt. The area is flush with plains game.

Also if you shoot all the 'big sturr" you can afford they have quite a few of the small animals and the bird hunting in great as well.

On my last trip my wife and I had a few great bird hunts, sand grouse, frankolin, guinea fowl, ducks,etc.

It is a great place to hunt. A buddy is over there this week hunting. I will hear from when he gets back and give a report.

I've hunted the Selous for cape an Argentina for water the experience of the Selous wins hands down.
The woman are prettier in Argentina and with some travel the waterfowl shooting is spectacular!!!!
It's really a matter of what you want. The cape is without a doubt DG but the water buff I hunted while wary weren't much of a threat...of course there is always the one with a wild hair up his ass.

Hunting water buffulo is more like shooting cows in a paddock ...o kay for testing bullets, cant get to excited about the old water Buffs

I don't think you have to have hunted Australian buffalo to know that the experience is a great one but quite different than a safari in Africa. You won't find many elephant in Australia either.

One of your questions was what to do after the main animals you are pursuing are in the salt. In a lot of safari areas you can fish, hunt small game, shoot birds, do some photo touring or just lay around and let yourself appreciate the amazing bush. Having a couple of days at safari's end to sleep in a little, have a leisurely breakfast and then go out with no set agenda is just wonderful. Safaris are just so much more than just shooting big animals.

Water Buffalo Australia! Go have a Crocodile Dundee experience, shoot a ton of stuff and have a good time. A expensive safari you blast through in 2 to 5 days then spend 5 days "chilling out", how fucking boring is that. You didn't spend $20,000 just to sit on your ass and not hunt.

Yes there are no elephants in Australia, and cape buffalo are allegedly more dangerous. I would pick Australia over Argentina, but I would still pick Australia over africa.

They look deadly even laying there with three rounds of 2470fps/500gr rounds of 450 Dakota in them. I shot an asian buffalo while I was in Vietnam, with an M-40 grenade launcher. No sense of danger at all. CM Safaris has several packages available for the combo you are talking about. I am dragging up the $$$ to return asap. Africa cannot be compared to anywhere else in the world. Imagine seeing a pride of lions within 50 yards of your safari car...

I've hunted both. They're both great, but really different. I'd do the cape buffalo hunt again, but probably not the water buffalo. It was fun, but I really didn't have the same sense of excitement as when I was hunting cape buffalo.

Now I understand the The birth of the 550 mag, after hunting with the m-40 every other shoulder arm must seem small.

The wife has had a similar problem since our honey moon, but thats a different topic.

I've taken water buff in Argentina, "sweepers" in Australia, and one Cape Buff. I will always try to hunt another Cape. Probably won't try the water varieties again except - one of those "cull" hunts in Arnemland intrigues. Go for the Cape hunt but understand that you'll never get enough of Africa.
