They just arrived and look impresive!
I have no pig at hand but a piece of meat (un peceto mechado) and it is incredible how easy the Chanchero cut it. Wink

I like this knife I found it on the web site but as I do not know Spanish I was unable to navigate the site. How much does it cost, and how can the company be contacted for purchase.

Something around 80 dollars, plus S&H... try www.pulish-met.com

My hog hunting knives:

First one is my Muela, works very well....

The big Rigid....works very well...

This next one is my parilla or asado knife. I bought it in San Francisco (Arg.) and one of the gun club members sharpened for me....it will shave hairs. Nothing better for costillas or a big bife chorizo.....note the Nandu toe handle.... knife

I thought Juan was partial to the Mercworx.

Their 9" blade version:

Beautiful knife, and as Juan would say, if it "worx" use it..... Roll Eyes Were I to buy a new knife for feral hogs, I would go with that blade style. I would rather it had more of a hand guard, it can get slippery after the stick. knife

Bill,

We need to fix you up with an old D Guard Cavalary sabre...

There are a few good looking "tanto" style Japanese blades out there. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with those. Samauri Hog Hunter!

Cold Steel has some nice durable knives.

Their "Tai Pan" looks like it would work well:

Specifications:
Blade: 7 1/2"
Handle: 5 1 /2
Overall: 13"
Thick: 3/16"
Weight: 10.8oz.
Steel: VG-1 San Mai III

Don't know how well a 7.5 inch blade would work on hogs, though.

They just came out with a new model, called their "Boar Hunter":

Specifications:
Weight: 8.7oz
Thick: 4.7mm
Blade: 8 3/4"
Handle: 5 1/8" Kraton®
Steel: Japanese AUS 8A Stainless
Overall: 13 7/8"
Secure-Ex® Sheath

Interesting design - the sharp side of the blade is the top.

I haven't had much luck finding out how to buy a Chanchero. Er, at least in English... (My Spanish has really rusted, apparently.)

Does anyone know of an English site where they're for sale?

I checked out the site that was posted, but I couldn't find the Chanchero on there.

I do not think one can find a true Chanchero here in the states. These two sites offer ones that are close, but expensive. That said, any good bowie should work...... knife
