A couple of years ago my son bought a 69 roadrunner w/ 400 original miles from a guy in Cal. + had it shipped by rail.He paid 30K + his wife had a fit.I told her to chill out;he will make money on this + he did.

Me too Mike. But, never owned one yet. Just got back from looking at one, through a dirty window though. Drove 2 hours and it was locked inside back in a dark corner.

My brother and I had a 65 mustang that was a drag car that had been converted back to a street car. Went into a mid-life crisis or something and bought a 66 GTO, but didn't keep it very long. I look back at all the cool muscle cars I could have owned and drove but spent to much money on whiskey when I was a young man. Oh well.

Neither was anywhere close to being as good as my Mazda Miata bought in later years. So much for nostalgia.

Back in the early 70's, a friend driving a Triumph TR6 with hot Weber(?) carb set-up gave me a ride home one day. First time I went over 100 mph in a car. Thought I was gonna die.
Dad used to have a '58 Harley Duo-glide. He took me for breakfast one day and buried the needle at 115 mph. I felt more secure on the Harley than the Spitfire.

I had the TR2 over "the ton" once! never again. It was all over the road! About 10 -15 years ago I got myself a Honda ST1100, which I took over 100 mph on the local interstate. Now that was scary!

they weren't classics back then just older used cars.
but for about 5 years at the same time I had a 70 Chevelle, a 68 charger and a 69 fast back mustang that were all daily drivers.

the first family car was a 65 Newport with a 383 and 4 barrel with a cam and headers, switched that out for a 65 new Yorker with a 413 RB engine.
that was the best Family car ever invented.
well, well north of 400 HP, seating for 8 and enough trunk space to put 2 sets of bunk beds in.

rambled around is a 53 chev deluxe, a 63 and 64 Falcon, and a 65 Valiant I bought off my aunt for 50$ for a couple of years.
had a 64 ford pickup we built from scrap yard bits and pieces for like 40$.
the old 55 P/U in forest green that was my FIL's [gave that to his youngest boy when he got old enough to drive]
the 63 chev pickup.
the 65 Rambler station wagon that finally used more oil than gas.
and the 64 GTO I bought from the neighbors down the street with about 40-K miles on it wasn't too bad.
we had the 67 Impala up until about 6 years back but the yard was getting crowded when I got the 68 International Travelall up and running finally and brought it home from the body shop.
that and the 64 scout are both gone now, [miss them and the 79 scout-2 that was my daily forever and a day]
replaced them all with an 89 Bronco that's in the paint shop waiting for the engine rebuild to come back at the moment.

Wife's car was a 1965 Corvette with Dick Gulstrand chassis mods and a messaged 350. I haven't owned one in over 30yrs and have no desire for another.

I didn't see the part about classic or special interest cars. Being in the car business, I've owned countless special cars other than those listed above.

True Lamar. In 73 I bought a 2 door 57 Belair for $75.00 + a 59 Impala for $50.00 + a 60 Ford unibody P.U. for $75.00 (I think,it was'nt much).When I tell my son (the car wheeler + dealer about this he just groans) In 76 I bought a 57 Apache P.U. for $450.00 w/ a new paint job. I tell my son that these were'nt classics then,just old cars.

I guess the full size Bronco's are classics now. My 1996 really rode nice. Used to tow the '66 Mustang on a steel trailer with it. Great engine that 5.8 Windsor.

Both Mazda's absolutely trouble free, cheap parts and labor compared to others. Wonderful memories of the Berkeley in college days which is why I bought the Miata.

I have owned three VW Beetles. The last one, a 2014, has a five cylinder engine that has more horsepower than my 944.

I have also had three MB's. The 1984 diesel S-car was the best long-distance highway traveler that I've ever had.

I've owned a few sports cars but I don't think you would call any of them "classic".

Still have the Viper. In my opinion, it's the only real sports car of the lot that once resided in my garage.

The Z and Vettes were automatic transmission dogs with something around 200 hp. None would spin a tire.

The 599 was a true bad ass but it was loaded with electronic wizbangery driver aids, paddle shift, and generally a soft feel unless you pushed it really hard, at which point it would show you how capable it really was. For driving around town, it just didn't feel special the way a car of that nature should.

The Viper is best described as a mouth breathing, knuckle dragging beast. It is not and never could be a daily driver. It's raw in every sense of the word. Reminiscent of those late 60's muscle cars but with the added ability to brake and handle curves. It trips my trigger and I don't foresee it leaving the stable any time soon.

I'd love to have one of those old Chevelle SS monsters as well!!!

The cars we have today are disposable units. Sad to say,I doubt we will ever see anything built with the care + quality control of our classics.If they would build another Horch or Pierce-Arrow I would do everything I could to come up with the money.

Thanks Gents. I think we should replace the word classic with COOL. That covers everything. Never was hot on the classic word.
Went to a outdoor exotic car show Saturday. The nicest cars there were Porsche 911's. Wasn't one Ferrari or Ford GT or McLaren or nuthin'. Was a little disappointed. At least one was sort of exotic, a Lotus Elise. I thought of those as a kiddy car, you know, short wheelbase, Toyota Camry engine. But, this one was parked next to a Carrera. They are almost the same size. Not bad.
