any one shooting an 1858 new army ? wondering what kind of accuracy they are capable of at 25 yards. Also, Any one know about reaming the edges of the cylinder, the part that cuts the ring off the ball as you seat it ? I read somewhere its better to swag the ball down than to cut it and push it in.

I had at one time or another 2 1858's and the accuracy was average. Eventually I was able to find a very early Ruger Old Army with the larger chamber capacity and used it mostly in the local inpromptu competitions. derf

I've got one of the Uberti '58's. It is an excellent revolver in every way. After filing the front sight to regulate point of impact it shoots to point of aim at 25 yards and groups around 2 inches from the bench with lee conicals. This revolver has had no tuning or anything else, it is box stock and the trigger breaks clean at 3.5 lbs. Best $250.00 I ever spent on a pistol. I'd avoid the pietta version (cabelas) there are reasons they sell for half the price of the uberti's.
