Im thinking of making a single shot varminter. Right now I have a Rem 700 in 6mmbr. But thinking of buying a #1 and rechamber it. Now, I want a long barrel, and therefor, thinking of making a barrel block. BUT, Im not sure if I can do without the hanger system that is under the forend stock? I have seen pictures of a Hagn action, and it does not have a hanger system, but is this needed in the Ruger #1? Can I remove it?

I have a #1 with hanger and a custom 26", custom in 6BR, shoots darned well. Really enjoy it. Kepplinger trigger and I believe a speed hammer was put in. Any ?'s let me know.

the hanger system houses the ejector spring etc. so you need it, but bedded in glass it will support a long heavy barrel just find. I've got a couple with 26" heavy barrels and they work out fine.

I would not remove it, since the mainspring which powers the hammer is mounted in that hanger, as is the ejector system..... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
