NortmanQuestion on a ruger #1
Im thinking of making a single shot varminter. Right now I have a Rem 700 in 6mmbr. But thinking of buying a #1 and rechamber it.
Now, I want a long barrel, and therefor, thinking of making a barrel block. BUT, Im not sure if I can do without the hanger system that is under the forend stock?
I have seen pictures of a Hagn action, and it does not have a hanger system, but is this needed in the Ruger #1?
Can I remove it?

6.5BRI have a #1 with hanger and a custom 26", custom in 6BR, shoots darned well.
Really enjoy it. Kepplinger trigger and I believe a speed hammer was put in.
Any ?'s let me know.

butchlocthe hanger system houses the ejector spring etc. so you need it, but bedded in glass it will support a long heavy barrel just find. I've got a couple with 26" heavy barrels and they work out fine.

6.5BRbutchloc has a point,

I would not remove it, since the mainspring which powers the hammer is mounted in that hanger, as is the ejector system.....
