Getting a tube or eye relief long enough to work with the Ruger #1s and 3s can be a problem. If you are going to shoot smaller varmints you might consider the Leupold 6X ?Alaskan that was made a few years. They are kind of expensive when you find them new. They are a 7/8" tube and would look ok on your short barreled single shot with some Fred Zermal type mounts |

| Uplandr, Funny you should mention it---so did I. Mine is a .223 also----UNFIRED and I paid all of $150.00 for it. I mounted a cheap 3-9 Bushnell on it in Weaver rings and bases (#85 & 86 ) The Bushnell was the only scope I had available----you have to crawl up the stock when it is set at 9 power. You really need something with a fairly long eye releaf. Shoots good, still fooling around with it breaking it in. I have a Leupold 3-9 compact that I bought a few years ago and I think it would be just the thing ! I don't think they make it anymore but they make a lightweight scope that might be a match for it!
