Does anyone know if it is possible to special order a Ruger No 1 in this model in .223? The smallest cal they list on their web site is .243. Cheers. GG

Ruger is very strict with their products. If it isn't catalogued, then they will not make it, unless you want to put in an order for, I think, 500 guns. If you send a Ruger No. 1 to the factory for repair, they will only put it back to the original caliber and specifications. My only luck in getting them to change something was to put a shorter barrel on a Blackhawk, but they kept the original barrel. I know that there have been Ruger no. 1's made in .223, so you might want to keep a look out for a used one. The other choice is to buy a used one and have it rebarreled. Good luck in you quest.

According to J. D. Clayton, Ruger didn’t catalog the 223 in any model No.1 until 1980. In 1980 through 1983 they offered the 223 in a No.1 AB which is a light No.1 with a B style forearm and no iron sights. In 1984 through 1986 the No.1 AB in 223 was a “non-cataloged caliber” (Meaning that they may have built a number of them but no one is sure). In 1985, 1986, and 1989 they made the No.1 A in 223 (also non-cataloged). This is the model you are looking for. Ruger doesn’t (didn’t) keep track of special orders. Who knows if any of the big distributors ordered this model/caliber combo? You just may find one used if you keep looking.

Will Lipsey's ship it to Queensland, Australia? That's where GG375 lives.

Paul, I think Ruger has made a No.1 B and V in 223 every year since 1980. ![]() ![]() Because of the lack of cataloged factory production, it appears that Ruger doesn’t think so. ![]()

No they wont ... you have to import it privately. If its a factory run however then the local importer can order one, but if its a dealer exclusive then you must import it yourself. Cheers... Con
