The updated Browning website shows that no 1885 is being made for this year. That's the sad story.

Winchester is showing off a 17HMR 1885 in their 2003 catalog and on their web site. Jay

Sorry guys Browning discontinued the 1885. My buddy wanted one in 454. I would have liked one in 45/70 Later Tanoose

If you really want one go to gunsamerica.com. There are several listed there. I found one in 243 at Cabelas.

Deputy, I always thought the low wall was not attractive . My deer gun now is a high wall 45-70 cut to 22" 1x4 scope ,engraved receiver .Accurate ,effective I love it.

Mete, have you looked at a low wall, held it in your hands? I like them. I have a 22 Hornet that I love. Its a quick pointer for sure. I am interested in what Winchester will do with the 1885s in the future. I hope they start making the High wall again. Did you like the artical? Jay

Deputy, never held one but they look funny article was excellent. I learned to shoot as alittle with a falling block .22 ,german, made in the 30s, still have it. ALWAYS teach kids to shoot with a single shot. That way when they grow up they will want a 1885 or RB etc. BTW I heard comment that Al Story is going to make Sharps-Borchardt. Anyone else hear that ?

I have worked up some loads for my Low Wall .243 but its been to damn cold to go to the range. If the gun is a shooter that high gloss finish on both the metal and wood will go by the wayside and a nice matt finish for the metal and oil finish on the wood. It has a fairly nice piece of wood and I just can't stand that epoxy type finish Browning uses.

I agree with you on that! I stripped a stock and forend off from a B-78 that I picked up last friday. Used "Dad's favorite" to strip it. Came off easy. You can get it at Meijers. It has been cold here and lots of snow. Rich where would you go to get the matte blue finish done? Jay

I didn't go to the trouble to strip the finish on mine. I just used fine 600 grit wet/dry with some water to cut the gloss, the finish is durable so why not keep it . After I engraved the receiver ( very simple ,that receiver is tough) I had it repolished to 400 grit, that you could actually do by hand and then take it to someone to blue.

Rich, I live about 20 minutes drive away from there, to the south. I stopped into a new gun store today. It is called Classic Doubles. They sell antique side by sides. There were some awsome doubles in there. You should look them up if your in the area. Its in Cascade township. If you know where that is. These guys have NICE stuff. Jay

I would like to check that out. I do all my upland hunting with doubles and have a weakness for Parkers. Can you give me some directions? By the way whats the 450 stand for?

Badge #450 Looking at the business card, I noticed that they have a web site address; www.ClassicAmericanDoubles.com The address is 6504 28th st. SE Grand Rapids. Telephone is 616-575-0690. I would goto mapquest.com and plug in that above address for the best directions and a map. They have Fox, Parker, L.C. Smith, Ithaca and Lefever doubles. I saw a little .410 double that I am kinda interested in too. Jay
