Hi, i like reading posts on this site and i have decided to join in. To stat off i live in Australia, Queensland’s central coast region. I started hunting about two years ago starting with pigs but after going on my first deer hunt i have decided i can’t see myself going back. So instead of hoping in to the Ute to go piggin, i found myself walking 20+ ks looking for deer. I was lugging around a mosin nagant M44 but finding that i tad heavy, so i sold it and have just purchase a Baikal IZH-18 in .308. Now the Questions. Has anybody have any experience with this rifle? And also after looking at the rifle i don’t think that the dovetail will hold a scope on a .308 very well. My idea was to get a gunsmith to machine off the dovetail and drill and tap some QD mount but i don’t know if that would work, because the mounts are made for rem 700, Bruno’s and others but no IHZ-18s is there a common rifle that has the same curve as the IHZ’s monoblock? Cheers.

Howdy Chappers. Welcome to the board. I'm not the moderator but I don't think they will mind me welcoming you to the group. We were talking about this rifle in question the other day and I'll try to find the thread for you. The scope mounting limitations is what kept me from buying on in .308 a couple of weeks ago at a gunshow. There is lots of knowledge on this board so hang around and get involved with threads. I'll try to find the thread on the Baikal and get it to you.

Chappers, this is the thread that discusses the single shot you are talking about. I hope this helps. http://forums.accuratereloadin...9421043/m/6301041401
