MY gunsmith has 2 FN .270s. I like them both and am scheeming to come up with the money to buy one. Both have the left handed safty on the bolt schroud , one is all FN. it has the cross bolt and an old redfield scope base and an old scope that is cool but I would replace it. That one is going for 700.00. he also has a FN marked sears. This rifle has a nice american style stock, no cross bolt or recoil pad, is factory drilled and tapped, and looks real nice to me. It is going for 500.00. I sort of have my eye on this one. I don't know to much about it, is it likly an FN barrel ? it looks to me like FN built the barreled action and someone in the US did a real nice job of stocking it.(when I say real nice we are not talking custom grade, but a well done commercial stock). Is this a fair price? and do you have an Idea how much of this rifle is really FN ? thanks...tj3006

I believe the entire action and t.g./floorplate etc. was FN on the sears and the barrel was High STandard, but dont' quote me on that.

Price on both is too high. I'd say around 350 or so for the Sears and a bit more on the other. But I haven't bought a lot of them so somebody here probably has more sell/buy experience than I.

Not positive what you have there. There are lots of FN sporters and one does not even have CRF! There is an old one made by FN in the late 40's thats a good gun. It's heavy but made right and looks good too. I picked one up that really shoots but mine has headspace and some pitting on the outside of the barrel. I would pay more to have one thats right so maybe $700 is not too much at all if it's what I am thinking of.

If the old FN looks like this buy it!

Guessing again the FN action rifle may be a Sears? Did you see that marking on the barrel. This is another good gun but not a "C" ring action. One of these has to be worth $300-500. The ones I am thinking of were made by High Standard.

Thge Sears Mod 50 was made in 270 and -06. The actions were FN and so marked. The barrels were by High Standard and chrome flashed so few are found with problems. I see only two problems with them. First, many have head spacing problems and the barrels should be turned to solve this. The second problems is a two piece trigger like the Model 70. This is easy to fis with an aftermarket trigger. Actually they work OK, but I just don't like them, especially if I replace the wood. The price for a minty Mod 50 should be in the $325-400 range. I usually by them in the $225 range as the Sears name often kills what those who don't know any better will pay. They are really excellent values for the money.

I bought a real nice FN last year for $495. At the gun show yesterday I saw a couple nice Sears (FNs) from $265-385.

I agree with the others. The prices are high in my book.

As usual just my $.02

I still run across decent Higgins M-50s for $250-$300, factory FN Deluxe Sporters $400-$600.

Is the rifle marked Sears or JC higgins?

I have a very nice Mauser action Sears rifle for sale alot less money than that one. The sears mauser I have is a santa barbare mauser action. I think is was made by charles daly for sears. Make you a killer deal on it.

???

I don't think so. If that's true, then it sounds like somebody used the FN action and replaced it with a Santa Barbara, if that's what it is. The Model 50's used FN actions. I wouldn't personally want one of the Santa Barbara actions.

Charles Daly doesn't make guns or actions.

Think "SO" I have a JC higgins M51 , and several Husqvarna FN rifle . I know what a FN is.

I know what a Santa Barbara action Is also and its marked spain on the side of the rear tang , has a diferent bolt handle.

The Sears rifle I have is marked Sears Heritage Mark IV supreme, Santa barbara action, 24" barrel marked, no sights , aluminum bottom metal, and stock design(monte carlo with slite roll over cheek, sguare angle cut rosewood forend tip and grip cap, figured tigerstiped walnut) of the rifle looks exactly just like the older charles daly rifles. It is original not redone. If you have insight as to who built it for Sears , And who built the older charles Daly rifles, Please Share.

Thomas, I went to a gun show the past weekend. Went to this one table to look at this "Sears" rifle with a scope, dies and a box of ammo. 7 times to looksee an bought it-300 bucks. Must be 85% bluing, stock is a plain walnut and clean and Belgium made, Model 50. Same action you are looking at but like the rest have stated all to often it is a chunk of money to lay down on that action. Swivels on this rifle are "unique" never seen such. It is a 98 nonetheless and a large ring. Good luck.
