Somewhere, I can't remember when or why, I got this notion that reboreing a barrel is simply not as good as a new barrel. Frankly I don't know the cost difference, if any, but I always figured re-boreing was cheaper, otherwise why do it. Actually, I've never seen any info on a source for reboreing. I would like to know the real deal on the re-bored barrels. Are they a legitimate way to go, expecting a first rate barrel? I think it is like getting a new barrel, some end up being better than others. I had a ribbed guild barrel done by Dubell at Clearwater Reboring and Ed Shilen was impressed at how it looked. Haven't shot it yet. Butch

rebore is a cut rifle bore .. its probanlt worthwile on a cool gun, with intregal features ... its probably a joke for a rem 700 quality? at least as good as a new barrel .. price, about the same, as a slick barreled new barrel .. opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Prices from Danny Pedersen rebore services; Rebore/rerifle barrel only $220 Rebore/rerifle/rechamber w/o setback $295 Rebore/rerifle/rechamber with setback (Ack. Imp.conversions) $320 otherwise, you could expect +/-$300 for new Krieger or Lija, + all fitting and chambering work,[Krieger charges at $270-290.] Even an cheaper new barrel [Pacnor$230] + C&F by an decent less expensive smith, say $400-450 total?, ...still makes an quality rebore an viable cost effective option.

very cool. i have had this very question for awhile now. im in the middle of a rem-03-a3 redo into a custom and hadnt decided on what to do barrel wise yet. i definetly consider re-bore befor i go to new barrel. sounds like i will save around 2 to 3 hundred and be able to keep the markings i have on this barrel. thanks fellas ---------------------------------- when all is said and done...more will be said then done

I've had Danny Pedersen rebore 2 for me. One was a 30-06 that went to 9.3x62 and the other was a 400 Tembo that went to 404 Jeff. Both shot better after the rebore than before it. One was a CZ factory barrel and one was a Krieger, FWIW. I've heard very good things about Clearwater but have never seen one. I have seen Dan Pedersen's work and it is top notch. Dan told me once that if they barrel was a good shooter before, it will most likely be as good or better afterward. If it was a pig before, it might not be worth the expense. Aside from the other stated benefits, you won't have to re-blue a rebored barrel, so the finish will match the receiver. If you have a tightly inlet stock, you don't have to worry about re-fitting. The only downside is that the chambering markings must be re-done. Sometimes they can look like hell.
