Been looking around and calling several guys in the business and have struck out so far. Need to find a stainless steel Ruger 77 take-off barrel in 270 or 30-06. Have to rebore for a 35 Whelen project. If someone could point me towards one I would greatly appreciate the information.
Thanks
Jim

I have gotten Rem and Win barrels from Brown precision, I'd try them and other gunsmiths like Sisk, Jarret etc. Hart though most work on Rems

You are using a 270 or 06 to make into a Whelen? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a new barrel? Last time I priced a rebore it was higher than a finished barrel.

I've used take off M70s on several Rugers. Cut off the extractor add a turn or two of thread and chamber.

As usual just my $.02

Jim,
I assume you are concerned about the barrel profile.

take it off, send it to bauska or pacnor, and for 20 bucks more than a new barrel, they'll copy your profile.. FAR cheaper than a rebore..

ITD custom guns will supply and install a Douglas Stainless in your matched contour for about $290. Or a standard contour for $45 less.

Thanks for the help guys! I have been checking with the smiths I know and like myself they have a variety of Winchester and Remington barrels....I guess like me they don't get much call for custom Rugers!!

Jeffe..the 7 will have too much chamber but I'll keep it in mind if I screw up another one. That's what happened here, got some reamer chatter that didn't clean up with the finish reamer. It doesn't go out to the customer till I get it right.

Snowwolf..went to Ebay last night and found nothing..but I will check back. Maybe nobody ever got a bum Ruger barrel or ever wore one out..nice thing about the rebore deal, I don't care if it's worn out or not. It'll be new on the inside when we get done. Just sent one back to a guy in Wasilla, -06 to a Whelen on an FN. Cut very nice.

Thanks again,I'll keep looking.
